ktgrok
I've always been able to get by with "xl" in normal stores, but no longer. Since this last baby was born I'm now quite rotund. And need pants. Winter is here and I have 2 pairs of shorts that kind of fit, but they are maternity, and one pair of really old sweat pants with paint on them. I get the feeling my hubby would like me to have, you know, clothes to wear in public :) So, where to shop? I don't even know my size, but big. Mostly in the waist, sigh. OH, and I'm short. Really short. like, barely over 5 feet short.

ktgrok
I had good luck with the pants at lane bryant thanks, I think we have one at our mall.
Ottakee
CJ Banks at the mall has nice stuff in X, 1X, 2X and 3X and pants up to a 26 or so and come in petite. They have basic classic type styles that are mom friendly. Make sure to buy on sale as their regular prices are quite high. I have also found some nice stuff--including my favorite jeans at Cato but they aren't as wide spread. I also found some stuff at Kohl and Peebles. Honestly, if you have a nice upscale area Goodwill to check out I have found some really nice stuff there and many plus sizes in petites. Even if you buy a few nice things at other stores you could round out your at home wardrobe with stuff from Goodwill if you want to watch your money. Beth in TN
I have bought all my clothing from Cato Fashions for many years. The clothing is attractive, durable, and affordable. They carry all sizes, accessories, purses, shoes and undergarments. I have no complaints.
KatieJ
Cathrines.com. They are a sister store of lane Bryant. You can order online and hve the clothes sent to your lane bryant store for free. You can also return there, but you won't get immediate credit. It has to be sent back to Catherines and then you will get credit. I have done it several times and it will take a week or so, but you get it. I love their clothes. Denim and company at QVC OSO at ShopNBC is the brand of the jeans I am wearing at the moment. Kohls has some in their women's department, but the quality is not as good..IMHO
MarinesWife
I have been buying almost all my clothes from Fashion Bug for the past 4 years. They are closing now...bought out by the corporation that owns Lane Bryant. I don't have as much luck with LB pants. :(
Caroline
Coldwater Creek and Talbots have nice women's clothes. They also have women's petites. They are pricey, but have good sales.
A.Balaban
I have been buying almost all my clothes from Fashion Bug for the past 4 years. They are closing now...bought out by the corporation that owns Lane Bryant. I don't have as much luck with LB pants. :( This was me. I walked into Fashion Bug for the first time and the stuff fit great. LB does not fit right. Fashion Bug was less expensive than LB and I cannot spend that kind of $$$ on clothing. Sharon37127
I want to comment specifically for jeans. I live in jeans. I am short (5'2") and carry all of my extra (195 lbs) weight around my waist- skinny arms, torso, hips, thighs, and lower legs. I found these at Kmart (where I bought them), but I think I saw some at Walmart the other day. Great, cuz I need another pair. :) http://www.ridersbylee.com/Catalog/WOMEN/jeans/jeans/157H597 well, any of the slender stretch- ashley no gap waist boot cut
Cafdog
I love NYDJ (Not Your Daughter's Jeans), they are plus sized and come in petite sizes, too (I'm 5 foot 3, myself). You can buy the pants at Macy's, Nordstrom, and the Nordstrom Rack. Soma Intimates has great plus-sized workout clothing in XL sizes, and I've bought super-cute shirts and sundresses there. Target tops and coats fit well, but the plus-sized bottoms are too long for the short legged, I'm afraid. Talbots used to have a great selection of petite plus-sized clothing at their Talbots Woman store, but all of the ones near me have closed. :( I am seriously bummed about the demise of Fashion Bug. I used to find great outfits there!
chiguirre
Target now has XXL in their regular misses' department and in lingerie.
CyndiLJ
Thanks for the suggestion of Catherines.com I just checked it out and think I might really finally find something there! Cindy
Shellers
I've had the best luck at Avenue. Avenue.com. I also like Fashion Bug and the women's department at Kohls.
Chris in VA
HATE the name, but I've found really nice things at Dress Barn. They have very pretty dresses, and their clothes seem reasonably priced (not Walmart, but more like JCP) and are constructed well. I bought 3 spring dresses there and got lots of compliments. Have to go back! I also love their pantyhose--kinda pricey, but they last for more than 2 wearings...and they don't bind in the wrong places. IYDM, let us know where you end up and what you find, as there are a number of the more Rubenesque here and I'm sure we'd all appreciate some "finds." :001_smile:
cin
Depending on how rotund you are, many stores have a plus size dept. that goes up to a 24 or 26. I like the jeans from Walmart, Just My Size, I think they are. Kohls, Penny's, Dillard's, Macy's...they all have a plus size dept. Lands End also sells plus sizes. Fashion Bug was my favorite place too. Lane Bryant is OK, but I cannot find a pair of jeans there to fit me. They are all LONG and they don't fit snug around the waist at all. They are a size or two too big in the waist. UGH
Carol in Cal.
Encore department at Nordstrom. Now, these do vary in what they stock, and I am lucky to have one nearby with an excellent buyer. I have visited two others that have very limited selections. So if you don't like your local one, try the online store. I was the one who introduced Not Your Daughter's Jeans to WTM--they are outstanding, and Encore is where I got my first pair. JAX in women's sizes has also worked for me (I am short and wide). Vince Camuto has great black pants in that dept. that you can dress way up or be very casual in. I also can wear some CAbI XL tops and flowy skirts--they are stretchy but don't look like typical elasticized stuff. Like you I am a bit bigger than XL in other brands.
