It's best to hear from Mom's who might know first hand what some good games are based on their own kids. I plan on already getting super scribblnauts. I need to get another games plus my 6 year old is wanting to buy a DS with Christmas money. This way I'll know how to lead him. TIA

My 8 year old ds likes to play Animal Crossing. He plays animal crossing with his brothers since they all have a ds and can play at the same time. He also said he likes Lego Batman.

Sadly  , I am playing on my DS game right now. I have so much fun playing the LEGO games. I am playing Indiana Jones right now, but I have just as much fun with Batman, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. I occassionally will play my Animal Crossing game, but my absolute favorites are the Professor Layton games.

The PL games might be too much for your young children, but they could play all of the others.

Indiana Jones (really any Lego games), Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and Diddy Kong racing are what my 8 year old recommends. My 5 year old agrees with the additions of Toy Story 3, and Monsters vs. Aliens. All my kids enjoy Mario, and Animal Crossing and my nieces and nephews like those two as well.

Scribblenauts is E 10+, just FYI. We haven't played it here, but it might be too complex for an 8yo based on that rating. I'd say Super Mario Bros has been the hands down favorite here, closely followed by Animal Crossing. The Lego games are cute too. We have Star Wars for DS and Harry Potter for Wii. The Littlest Pet Shop games were a huge hit with my girls, and my son would play those from time to time as well :)

My son's first Nintendo DS game was Rocket Slime, which both he and dd LOVED. According to Amazon, that was nearly six years ago, but it's still available for sale - new and used - on Amazon today.

When my youngest was 5 and 6, she played several of the Pokemon games along with her older siblings; she will occasionally bring out her DS to play Pokemon on it, but that's pretty rare now. They all also liked the Lego games.
