Roxy Roller
I am having a really hard time choosing the right spelling program for my DD13 and one of my twin DSs10. They both learn in a similar way and Teaching Textbooks seems to be working for math, but just about everything we have used for spelling over the years has flopped. Any recommendations? Dolphin
Have you checked out Phonetic Zoo? We struggled with spelling till we found that (and ds is a TT kid). Here is my review of it
Shawna in North CA
I second Phonetic Zoo, because it is totally self-paced and almost completely independent. I also love the way Andrew Pudewa addresses spelling....if you haven't watched his "Spelling and the Brain" lecture, its worthwhile. Dd 9 is using PZ and TT, and they work for her. She is not a natural speller, btw.
Penelope
I third Phonetic Zoo. I have not used TT, but PZ is what I understand TT to be: mostly self-taught and self-correcting. I actually have mixed feelings about it and think that the fact that we used AAS for a while first had something to do with his success, but I've been pleasantly surprised at how it has worked for ds age 10. Roxy Roller
Thank you all for your responses. I do have Phonetic Zoo A on my shelf...we tried it years ago, but found that we had to back up, maybe I will have to revisit it. I have looked through your review, Northwest_Mama, it is very thorough. Thank you. Any other options out there that I don't know about, or might have forgotten about? memmerrill
Oops, I thought TT was "times tables." Haha....I was thinking the answer would be "phonics".....well I'm glad I clicked on this thread because I had never heard of The Phonetic Zoo before. It may be a good match for my dd1. Good luck, Roxy Roller!
