macmacmoo
If you could only have one nursery rhyme / Mother Goose book, which one would you get?
alisha
I looked through a few of them a few years ago, and decided on the Mary Engelbreit Nursery Rhyme one. It seemed to have more of the well known ones and fewer of the one's I've never heard of, though there were still a few new ones.
Wabi Sabi
We have several, but this is the one that my kids seem to reach for the most often: http://www.amazon.com/Tomie-dePaolas-Mother-Goose-dePaola/dp/0399212582/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1353343604&sr=8-1&keywords=tomie+de+paola+mother+goose Personally, I like this one for the illustrations: http://www.amazon.com/Mother-Goose-Gyo-Fujikawa/dp/1402750641/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1353343640&sr=1-1&keywords=gyo+fujikawa+mother+goose
Alte Veste Academy
One just for boys? Richard Scarry's Best Mother Goose Ever. My boys LOVED it. The illustrations are delightfully quirky. One just for girls? Favorite Nursery Rhymes from Mother Goose. My DD LOVED it. The illustrations are exquisite. (You can see samples in the gallery on Scott Gustafson's web site.) :D
serendipitous journey
We've been very, very happy with the Arnold Lobel version that came with a Sonlight package. There are lots of poems, some unusual verses, we thoroughly enjoyed the illustrations, and it made for a year of very charming tea-time poetry reading. The boys, at the time a toddler and a 6yo, both enjoyed it. Drawback: all the people in it -- most characters are animals -- are white people, which makes a sort of sense given that the drawings are of old England, but was disappointing to me: I wouldn't feel comfortable giving it to some of my friends' families. Punchie
I love the version illustrated by Gyo Fujikawa. It is the one I had when I was a kid.
