Halcyon
Lately, my dishwasher has been leaving a residue of crusty, sandlike pieces (miniscule bits of food??) on my dishes, particulalry the top layer. I have to soak them all again to soften the stuff, and then wash them by hand. So two days ago i declared: no more dishwasher! And we have been washing by hand...i wash older dries, and younger puts away. And you know what? I like it! No more emptying the dishwasher, a chore i detest! somo_chickenlady
Our dishwasher took its last breath over a year ago, and we never bought a new one. I actually prefer to hand wash them, b/c I think they are cleaner in the end that way.
Barb_
Well, if you come down off your dish washing high and come back to the dark side, this stuff is amazing: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007Z48F56

Truscifi
Same here. We've been handwashing for about 2 weeks now!
momtoamiracle
I hate washing dishes. Hate it hate it, hate it. I dread the day my dishwasher dies! there's no one to dry and put away but me! I'd so rather clean a toilet then wash dishes. Maybe because much of the time I was growing up we didn't have a dishwasher, 7 people, and my mom cooked huge meals daily, and canned all summer long. Would take two hours nightly to do the dishes, that is not an exaggeration... Have you checked where the water sprays out? Mine were clogged once. Dh cleared them out and performance improved a bunch.
TengoFive
This is why my kids unload the dishwashers LOL. I don't mind loading, but I hate putting away. When our old dishwasher did that, it had the filter clogged. You should be able to clean it out.
fraidycat
I rarely ever use my dishwasher(s) in all the houses I've lived in. The dishes never feel clean to me. However, the dishwasher racks make great drying racks after handwashing and rinsing. :D
UrbanSue
We've had dishwashers off and on in various rentals but we almost always would try them out and go back to handwashing. Our house now has a dishwasher hole but no appliance and we have no plans to change it. I don't love to do the dishes but I find that handwashing them is just as fast as rinsing, loading, unloading. And I don't have the problem of being annoyed by dishes that have piled up while I wait for a minute to unload the dishwasher. And hand washing soap is less chemical-laden than the automatic stuff (or, in any case, the environmentally friendly hand washing stuff actually works!). Dh usually dries for me while we chat in the evening. I think I'm a permanent hand washing lover.
Big Buckin' Longhorn
We've been living in this house 4 years and I can count on one hand the times I've used the dishwasher. I think we ran it 2 or 3 times when we first moved in just to get the traveling dust off of everything. I hand wash dishes every day. I think it's just something my Mom instilled in me. She never would let us use our dishwasher growing up, she said she didn't trust it to get her dishes as clean as she wanted them. I've had dishwashers every where I've lived, but never really used them. Now I don't trust them either, LOL. It's hilarious because my Mom is INSANE and I don't take a word of anything she says seriously, but this one thing REALLY stuck!

Georgiana Daniels
Since we moved into this apartment in July we haven't had a dishwasher. Well, I guess I am the dishwasher. How I miss being able to shove everything into the dishwasher, out of sight! It takes me twice as long now :(
