5LittleMonkeys
"Please use appropriately sized containers when putting away the leftovers." and yet......... You would think that even a minuscule amount of common sense and logic would cause one to realize that putting 1 chicken breast into a 1.2 gallon container is...well...just stupid! Especially when there were 6 smaller containers that had to be removed from the large one in order to use it. My refrigerator is PACKED with inappropriately used containers. Okay, I'm back..I just went to count them so I could share with you all how ridiculous it is, and guess what I found right behind the over-housed chicken breast? 4 one cup containers packed full of the leftover vegetables we had last night. REALLY!? She couldn't put the vegetables in the larger container (even though that would still be too big) and put the chicken in one of the 1 cup containers? :banghead: This is a JAWM by the way. Obviously we will be having some remedial lessons in matching sizes (I thought we had that taken care of in Kindergarten), in addition to cleaning out the fridge and washing BY HAND all of those containers. Aren't teenagers great?
JFSinIL
I am with you - when leftovers are being used up, I like to transfer them to smaller and smaller (if they last that long) containers, thus making more room int he 'fridge. Hubby wigs out - he'd leave the largest container in there hogging room with only a spoonful of something in it. Since I am the one doing the dishes and I don't mind the few SECONDS it takes to transfer food and clean the larger container, I tell him to CHILL!!!!! Now - I wish he'd take that last spoonful of leftover whatever and EAT IT or toss it and not put it back in the 'fridge!
Tenaj
This just made me smile. My dh's family always cracks me up because it's like a sport to them to find the smallest possible container to put the leftovers in. I have seen his aunt and his grandma debate for five or more minutes on which container the leftover mashed potatoes should go in and then the tragedy and accusations if someone happens to pick a container the wrong size - LOL! We're pretty good about the sizes at our house, but my dh is the worst at trying to sneak the leftovers back into the fridge in the original containers they were served in . . . no matter how much is left . .. that way he doesn't have to wash the pan :) I *try* to make it a joke when I find a 9x13 pan of jello in the fridge with a 2x2 in. square left in it. Karen in CO
That is terrible - :D this is me agreeing with you. I fixed this by only allowing leftovers to be put in ziplock bags. Which also fixed my problem of having to clean out forgotten leftovers.

Tap
I am guessing that they liked the chicken ALOT....thus big container and the veggies a little....thus little container. :D

I'm not feeling quite so bad now knowing that some of you have husbands that would do this. Oh, and I've tried putting food in ziploc bags...this dd has issues with getting the zipper part completely closed...not fun.
5LittleMonkeys
I'm just amazed you get anyone else to do that at all. Well, I'm probably one of the meanest moms ever, but I have 5 kids so the rule is : if you want to be homeschooled you WILL be responsible for helping to keep this house clean. I don't do laundry nor clean up after meals. Those are the domains of my older girls. I've been "training" this dd to take care of the kitchen after meals for 3 years. Bless her heart...once she starts doing one part well another part suffers. It's like a vicious cycle. She claims that she's like a computer and has a limited amount of memory. If she is to remember one thing too many she has to dump some information or suffer crashing. "You wouldn't want my hard drive to crash would you?" is a common comment from her. fairfarmhand
"You wouldn't want my hard drive to crash would you?" my response: You wouldn;t want my head to explode would you???? that comment would drive me to the brink. My daughter would use it as a lame excuse. But my daughter would have no trouble remembering that Friday is her friends' birthday and I needed to drive her to the store to get her a gift, Saturday was a 4H activity, Sunday was the friends' party etc.....and then "forget" to put leftovers in the correct container. I feel your pain. My kids can never find ANYTHING! I can say, "It is on the second shelf of the pantry on the far left in a red and white box." and they will say, "It is NOT. I'm looking in here now and it's not there!" Of course I come down and can put my hand right on whatever they were looking for. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

My husband DOES do this, although he can put food away in appropriately sized containers. I don't know that I would trade one for the other. Jeannie in NJ
actually the only skill I have in this life is that I can always pick the exact size container to put leftovers in, especially for sauces and things such as mac and cheese. So obviously I have to put all leftovers away since my dh and dc say "Jeannie/Mom, you have the SKILL"

Try my line: ""Do you want to look again, or do you want me to look and then yell at you when it;s exactly where I said it would be?" Of course, that's assuming someone put it back where it belongs. My other famous line is "Well, that;s where it;s supposed to be, If someone didn;t put it away in the right place, it;s not my problem to find it. That's why it has a place to be put away." :glare: Now, don't ask my how small of a pan DH will use to cook things in- especially ground meat. OK, I'll give you a hint: It would be the exact right size to put it away in. Now, imagine turning/stirring something in a pan that is exactly and only as big as the food itself is. :banghead:
