Soror
Mil is wanting a list, my brain is not working- so far I've got a jewelry making kit and card making supplies. Any other ideas? I need things as well that dd3 can get that are similar as she wants to do whatever big sister does.
AnIslandGirl
I just posted on similar artistic thread, but my daughter loves canvases to paint/ draw/ collage upon. The bigger the better (we love the huge 48" ones)! They are fairly inexpensive, but make a great big present under the tree. A few canvases and a paint set would make a wonderful gift. The best part is you can always paint back over canvases in white and start over again. No age limit either! Or if you MIL is the type that loves to give "experiences" maybe you have a local art class that you MIL could pay for a session or two? What about a make-your-own playsilk kit--some silk scarves from Dharma Trading Co along with a bunch of koolaid packets so they can dye them? If you go this route I'd recommend at least 3-4 packets of each flavor for intense color (fewer for pastels). They're super easy--dissolve the koolaid in water, add scarf, microwave until color is absorbed. She could package it in a mason jar or some other cute container. My dd had fun with this when she was 6yo. Obviously requires supervision but it will add endless hours of creative play.
milovany
You could put some creative sparkle in her bedroom (here; click the picture at the top of the page to enlarge it). I've seen this done up with sparkly gems. Other ideas: A child-sized loom, an origami kit, some hardening clay (that will bake hard, not the kind that hardens over time on its own). happi duck
We love the Klutz line of books...always great instructions, come with supplies to get started but it isn't just 'done' when you use the supplies provided. I've noticed that Klutz has a line for younger kids now. We've never used them but that might be a way for mil to get something similar for both ages. Klutz books were always great gifts to receive. I just looked it up: Chicken Socks is the line for younger kids: http://www.klutz.com/chicken-socks'>http://www.klutz.com/chicken-socks Here's the homepage for Klutz: http://www.klutz.com/ And here is their 'gift finder' page: http://www.klutz.com/giftfinder?appesp=KLUTZ/ib/20120917/klutz/unpd//homepage/tiles/giftfinder
helena
Maybe there's something she'd like here: http://www.achildsdream.com/ or here: http://www.magiccabin.com/
Soror
Oh, lots of good ideas. I'm going to have to think more. She loves to decorate her room. She loves flowers and floral arranging. I don't think she'd do much with the play silks, although that is an idea for dd3 as I think she would really enjoy something like that. She likes painting- a good paint set would be good. I'm not sure about the canvas though, as she is a perfectionist and I can just see her melting down when she "messed" up on something big and painting over something would just not work for her I know! I think hardening clay might be good as well but I don't think origami would be her thing. I was trying to think of the name of those Klutz books- thanks so much for the link! The magic cabin has all kinds of great ideas- I wonder if I can get her to shop online as I see so much she would love.
