HappyLady
How do I get rid of the smell? :glare: I took in a stray cat and my cat was so afraid of her that he hid under the couch. I know he peed under there and behind the TV, but I can't for the life of me see any stains! My carpet is a very light color, too, so how do I treat something I can't see?? I poured Nature's Miracle for cats all under the couch and behind the TV and though the smell is *better* I can't get rid of it completely. I've treated the areas about 5 times and steam cleaned the carpet. I really need this smell gone by Thanksgiving as I'm hosting!! Any suggestions? Thankfully the cats are tolerating one another now and my cat is back to using his litter box (they have separate litter boxes on different floors). StephanieZ
If Nature's Miracle (including using the long-slow method of soaking it, allowing it to dry over a few days by covering with a towel to slow drying) doesn't cut it . . . The only other thing to do that I know of is to rip out the carpet, use Kilz (oil based!) to seal the subfloor, and recarpet with new carpet and pad. UGH. SJ.
I would keep treating with Nature's Miracle. When you use it you need to completely soak, I'm talking puddles here after everything has soaked in, the area. I believe it can take up to two weeks for the enzymes to work. We have had to use Nature's Miracle a few times in one spot but eventually it worked. Good luck!
Alte Veste Academy
1 c. hydrogen peroxide 1 tsp baking soda 1 drop of dish detergent (yes, that little) Mix in a glass measuring cup with plastic spoon (something about avoiding metal...). You can make as much as you need. Pour onto affected area (must detect this with your nose...so sorry about this ). Saturate the area completely. Do not dab, rinse...nothing. Let it dry. This rescued my brand spankin' new couch 10 years ago after a naughty kitty decided she did not like the new couch. :glare: I use it regularly on the floor around the toilet these days. Catwoman
White vinegar or apple cider vinegar works on cat urine smells. Of course, then you have to get rid of the vinegar smell...

Firefly
The vinegar smell dissipates after a bit, I always use it for everything I want deodorized. Yep. I clean with vinegar and the smell disappears pretty quickly. OP, Nature's Miracle has been the only thing that's ever worked for me; I hope you have success whatever you decide to try! Myra
1. Clean with soap and water to remove the actual urine- let dry 2. Apply Nature's Miracle - let dry 3. Pour an entire bottle of hydrogen peroxide - let dry This 3 step process always works for me! Myra
Chris in VA
Agreeing with Nature's Miracle, but also, check the carpet pad, and then check under it--do you have wood floors? You may have it in the pores of the wood--good luck if you do.
