lynn
My dd is 7 and really wants a play kitchen this Christmas. Which one do you have? Which one will be big enough for a 7 year old?

Farrar
For a 7 yo? I'd give her a cookbook, an apron, and her own utensils instead. Or I'd get her a refrigerator box and let her make her own. A play kitchen might get some use, but I can't imagine it would see enough to justify buying one as they're not cheap. Ours was much loved and given away around age six. GSOchristie
The only ones I've seen are pretty small, like my 5 year old would be too big for them. Could you custom build one?
MariannNOVA
The only ones I've seen are pretty small, like my 5 year old would be too big for them. Could you custom build one? Ikea has some storage pieces that would make a great kids kitchen. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/childrens_ikea/18836/ It is their stuva storage system. freeindeed
Have you thought about turning an entertainment center into a play kitchen? isitnaptime
We have a wooden one from Target my 3,5 and 8 year old all still play with. They are also all drooling over the big one from Step 2. It would be small for an 8 year old, but most will be. http://www.step2.com/p/LifeStyle-Deluxe-Kitchen I figure, if my 8 year old still wants to play kitchen with her little sisters, I am all for it. She still gets time in the "real" kitchen with us as well.
mom2scouts
We have one of the Step 2 kitchens and my 6 year old still plays with it frequently.
stripe
I bought a little wooden stove top, I can't remember how much I paid for it, maybe $30, and set it on a bookshelf that was the oven, and my kids sort of played with it. A friend who lived abroad was over and her daughter loved it so I bought her something sort of similar I found at Home Goods or TJMaxx for about $10. But, like Farrar, I would just teach the kid how to cook at this point. Or how to build one out of cardboard or wood. My kids spend more time mixing up stuff in the bathroom and kitchen than they do pretending to stir a pot on the fake stove.
Ruby Rose
We made ours last year because I couldn't find anything big enough. We bought a 2 door cabinet, used SS knobs for the stove, a SS bowl for the sink, silver pipe for faucet, h and c knobs for water, cork round for the burners. Planned to add legs but never have. Both kids love it. My kids love imaginative play!
StartingOver
http://www.amazon.com/KidKraft-53181-Large-Kitchen/dp/B0017JBR6O/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1352769324&sr=8-19&keywords=Play+kitchen The link above is the only one I have found that is 42" in height. I just purchased this because three friends recommended it, they each had it for 3 + years and it was still in great shape. I love that it is wooden, and taller so my daughter will use it longer. Sara in AZ
http://www.amazon.com/KidKraft-53181-Large-Kitchen/dp/B0017JBR6O/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1352769324&sr=8-19&keywords=Play+kitchen The link above is the only one I have found that is 42" in height. We have this one. I love it because it is super cute. My 7 year old us way too big for it, though.
umsami
We have this one http://www.amazon.com/Educo-My-Creative-Cookery-Club/dp/B000A6L6WK/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1352779468&sr=8-13&keywords=wood+play+kitchen It's probably a little short for a seven year old, but all of my kids still play with it (9, 7, 5, and 2). We've definitely had a lot of fun with it. One thing also to consider is buying a kids' cookbook and cooking real food. We love all of the Mollie Katzen cookbooks. We also have a BH&G one for kids--that my son loves. I just bought the River Cottage Family Cookbook used on Amazon, and it's simply wonderful. Such great info. http://www.amazon.com/River-Cottage-Family-Cookbook/dp/1580089259/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1352779578&sr=1-4&keywords=river+cottage+cookbook

Elizabeth in MN
For a 7 yo? I'd give her a cookbook, an apron, and her own utensils instead. :iagree: with the promise of cooking lessons. My dd had a play kitchen and graduated to real cooking around the age of seven. She is now in charge of all dessert baking and loves it.
