gingersmom
I'm so pleased with myself. I have been working so unbelievably hard to get a handle on my budget. I was sitting at skating for 4 hours (over 2 days), unbelievably bored (been doing this for years) and started watching a self imposed marathon of Extreme Couponing on Netflix. I signed up for some coupon sites who started emailing me 28 pages of coupons at a time. I now have 6 tubes of toothpaste and 12 bottles of shampoo/conditioner. While I'll never be anything close to an extreme couponer (my foodstore will only take 4 of a coupon at a time for one thing) it sure has been nice to save about $10/week over the past month ($40 saved!!!). I am very brand specific and still buy the same stuff, I am just now getting it cheaper. Just had to share. :001_smile:
ZooRho
I'm doing better too. I just use mostly the coupons in the paper. I was able to get 2 extra Sunday papers for 50 cents each a week so a great deal. so now I get 3 Sunday papers. I also found a few sites that help with match ups to the local ads and that helps. My store doubles up to $1 on wed. So I look online on Tues to see what is good. I've gotten several free things. Yes I did figure out that I will never buy another tube of toothpaste. I should always get it free. I met an extreme couponer. she had a ton of stuff, She was very helpful for giving me some direction I too don't want to over do it but getting free things is great, I'm also trying to pay attention to if I get it free then I could pass some things on to the Church food pantry. I can only use 2 like coupons and 20 a day.
ZooRho
oh I regularly save 63% using coupons. Not buying a full cart but just the sale/coupon stuff.
mytwomonkeys
oh, i love couponing too. i don't even get the sunday paper. i print all of my coupons online, & i also will buy coupons from ebay or thecouponclippers.com. i figure the $3-$5 i will spend there is cheaper than buying sunday papers & i know i'm getting what i'll use. i also pay attention to store sales now. it's crazy that i didn't do that before! my store has super sales on wednesday & i was able to buy gain detergent for $3 after my dollar off coupon!! if had i gone tuesday or thursday with no coupon, it would have been $7.50! i'm saving a ton!:D love it! jenn&charles
I just started couponing as well. Last shopping trip (my first real try at using a bunch of coupons) I saved 80 bucks. My kids were all excited about it (daughter in college and 8th grader). Otter has been helping cut coupons out and my daughter has printed coupons out from her laptop so we can get extras from online. I've been planning my next trip and have stacks of coupons ready to go. There are a few really good deals on some things I'm going to stock up on. I've never bought 20 boxes of cereal before but I'm going to this weekend because of the HUGE savings I'm going to get. I'm even going to get 5 cans of olives for free, lol. We've all been watching episodes of Extreme Couponing via Netflix which is what inspired us to give it a try. While I don't think I'll be quite as "crazy" as the people on the show, even the bit that I'm trying is really saving us a ton. I like having the idea of having a small stockpile too, in case of emergencies.
Reya
If you're really faithful, you can rack up a couple years' supply of toiletries in about 3 months for almost nothing. :-) I did that, then I mostly stopped couponing except for cereal because I had enough for a long time! WITHOUT coupons but with store savings, I saved 50% at Safeway yesterday. $36 for most of my weekly groceries. I'll spend about $10 more at ALDI to finish it up. Our local Safeway just got hit hard with competition from Wegman's. I'm beyond thrilled. I usually hit Safeway (with the best loss leaders) and an "everyday" discount store plus ALDI every week for my savings. Now Safeway alone plus ALDI is awesome. With the JustforU savings, I got $3 off $10 of produce (I get this EVERY TIME I shop there) PLUS $5 off any purchase of $20, on top of all my card savings. Who says you can't get a discount on produce???? I get 15-30% off every time I shop on TOP of the circular discounts! With that $36, I got 8lbs oranges, 3lbs apples, 3lbs broccoli, 3lbs onions, hot dogs, 8lbs pork shoulder, a huge quart of spaghetti sauce (yes, I should have had a coupon for that--no, I hadn't clipped one), 4 cans of soup (also should have brought a coupon), 2 bags chocolate chips, 2lbs roasted salted peanuts. We still have cereal, and milk, etc., will come from ALDI.
Reya
I've ended up getting a lot of toiletries for free, but I've also gotten cereal and soy sauce for better-than-free with coupons.
Georgiana Daniels
Yay! It sure does get addicting. I haven't couponed in about a year, but when I did we saved tons of money and stockpiled all the basic lotions/shampoos/cleaning products/etc. Once we get settled into our new home I'll start again.
