cjgrubbs
Current 7th grader. 5th grade we did IEW Fix-it 6th we did Easy Grammar 7th we tried CQLA - it was too hard I'm assuming bc I've laid a poor foundation since we came out of public school. Now we've switched to KISS. The 2nd grade Level 1 is great for my younger. the 6th grade Level 1 is too hard for my 7th but the 2nd grade would be too easy. I also feel like I need more teacher helps. I'm hoping Rod and Staff will be a better fit for this structure loving kid. He really wants this to be a subject that he can work on independently while I'm working with younger students. Question is this. TWTM says if you are starting a 7th grader in Rod and Staff to start with the 5th grade book, Progressing with Courage. However, Progressing with Courage is the 6th grade book. Should I start at 5th grade or 6th grade book?

cjgrubbs
Thank you Silver Moon! You are always so helpful! We did the old Easy Grammar 5/6 book last year. So we'll just go with the Rod and Staff 6. Thanks! I'm ready to be settled on something that works or us for grammar. He will never be a writing/language/literature scholar but I still want him to be able to speak and write reasonably well!
~Anna~
That part in TWTM confused me too! I just started my 7th grader on the R&S 6 book and she is doing great with little to no prior grammar instruction, so I definitely agree that the 6 book is the way to go. Hope it's the right fit for you all!
Mrs Twain
R&S English is excellent for grammar. I also encourage you as a previous poster to defintely do the review from the TM before each lesson. That is very important for the program.
