Do you ever read the op in a thread, begin to type your response and then ...

scrap it, thinking, "I'll just wait and see what everyone else says first and then see if my advice is even close to sounding reasonable before I go sticking my foot in mouth"?

Most of the time I don't then read the rest of the responses and I find someone already answered the question and/or mine is just a duplicate response. :glare:

There are many others here more gifted with words than I am, so I tend to see if they are going to answer.

Or often I do have a response/opinion, but feel it would not be welcomed by the OP, usually for religious reasons (I'm not Christian).

Or there are already tons of replies, so I figure mine will just be lost in the crowd. This is my most common reason, actually.

I always post before I read other peoples posts because I do not want to be swayed by what others say. But then, I think once, someone told me I should have read what the others said first. But that particular time, there were pages of replies. It would have taken forever. If I do read other peoples replies and change my mind about what was said, then I can always edit my post.

I do these things too. I also often start writing, get partially finished then decide who the heck cares what I think anyway, and then delete it. And then there are times that no matter how I try, I can't get the words to express my thoughts the right way, so I give up. Or the times when I'm only 50% sure I'm making any kind of sense, those get deleted too.

Its a wonder I manage to post at all really. :P

If someone asks for my (our) opinion and I have something to share, I share that. I must consider it reasonable or it wouldn't be my opinion. If it's different from what others think, that's okay. Doesn't mean my advice is any less reasonable ~ or that the advice offered by others is less reasonable.

No. I usually read the op post, then the next couple of responses. After that I post my answer with an apology for possibly answering the way a previous post answered. And then I go back and read. Finally, I kick myself for posting something someone said 4 pages back.

I'm impatient I suppose.

Maybe reasonable wasn't the right word - see, there I got cornfuzzled with my own op.:D

I guess what I meant was "acceptable" or along the lines of what other folks would think. Does that tell you something about me? I'm a tad insecure.

Here's a for instance: Someone says "Do you think it is ok to eat jellybeans on Tuesdays?" and I think "Well, of course, it is ok to eat jellybeans on Tuesdays," so I start typing my response. All of a sudden I get this feeling that maybe eating jellybeans on Tuesdays is perhaps not such a great idea or maybe it offends some people if jellybeans are eaten on Tuesdays or maybe I really don't know anything about jellybeans or Tuesdays after all so I just skip it.

Like I said, I'm a tad insecure:D.

That does sound a tad insecure. And it's intereseting, because that's not how you come across on this board at all. You come across, imo, as very secure ~ in a good way.:)

Thanks, Collen - it is nice of you to say so. I suppose it is just about some things that I feel insecure. Maybe that's what it is. I just find that I start typing something and then really have doubts about whether I have a clue, so I just delete it all and keep reading.

Btw, I read this post out loud to dd15 and ds19:

and ds19 said, "That's reasonable." :)

Yes, I do all of those things. Not always, but there are definitely times that I start typing and, oh never mind. Maybe I'll just delete this one too!!!!!:lol::lol:

hee hee... actually, i NEVER even think about replying until I've read all the replies.

If it's an opinion / situational question, I will jot down on the notepad my original thoughts, but then i read through the replies and pick and choose the great nuggets that counter my original thought, or find a neat little idea that spurs an additional thought.

i WANT to learn thru reasonable discourse.

I want to have my opinions stretched and weighed and measured. Hopefully before i've made it public ;)

so in THIS thread? I mentally noted immediately that NO--I read the replies first. Then realized that sometimes i DO type up initial thoughts. But acknowledged that even when i do that, I don't post till I've read it thru.

But if I've bothered putting that much time into a thread, i post even if it is just an ITA w/ a previous post :)

This is me. Only if I am really sure that what I have to say is the correct answer will I be the first to reply.

A lot of times I have a reply all typed out and then think - that's the same as everyone else or no one else thinks this way and I delete it.

I do this alot. I would probably have a 1000 posts by now if I didn't keep deleting my posts. I even did it one time on this post. What is wrong with me? BTW, it's not because I want to see what others say, but I will start writing and then I can't formulate my thoughts well enough so I just delete it.

Whoa... I could have typed this, almost word for word. :)
