Nestof3
Okay, my son reads a lot of books for pleasure, but they are mostly modern. Right now he's on a Rick Riordan spree reading all his Greek stuff -- like a book a day. In general, he's all about Greek myths right now -- making a family tree, etc. He also grabbed my Roman books and started reading and writing a report on ancient Rome. He's currently studying in school American history, so he has been reading some books along with his History of US. So far, he has read this year The King's Fifth, Blood on the River, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Saturnalia, Amost Fortune Free Man. He just got a Kindle Fire, and I have a great library. I am wondering if I should add in a few classics. He has already read Narnia, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings. Any suggestions? I don't want to make it seem like I am trying to take away his pleasure reading by dumping him with a lot of required reading, but I also want to make sure I touch on some great books. Thanks! Chris in VA
He's probably ready for Tom Sawyer (but I'd wait on Huck Finn til hs) and some Poe. Sherlock Holmes might be fun for him. TOG has a good O. Henry book with some of his short stories.

He just seems so young to me that it's hard to believe he's ready for such meatiness. But, that's probably just because I'm the mom. :)
