Parrothead Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Read that title with a whiny voice. Why can't plump be healthy? *stamps foot then stomps upstairs to find sox* Quote
Elinor Everywhere Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Hey, I'm proud of you for doing it anyway! I chose to lay in bed with my iPad and that's not helping my cause. :tongue_smilie: Quote
suzielou Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 :iagree: I tried telling my doctor that I spend my day running after children. I don't understand why that doesn't count. Quote
Parrothead Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 I only did 30 minutes. I just didn't have the willpower to stick it out another 15 minutes. This week I've put in 13 miles. Not bad for a beginner runner. It is done until Monday. C'mon everyone. Off your tushies! If I can force 2 miles out of myself, you can get up and do something good for you. Quote
Parrothead Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 :iagree:I tried telling my doctor that I spend my day running after children. I don't understand why that doesn't count. I think it counts until they stop running. I know once dd stopped running I started getting plump. Quote

I chose to lay in bed with my iPad and that's not helping my cause. :tongue_smilie: I can't do that because bed is upstairs and tea is downstairs. I must get out of bed to get tea. I wish I could run with my mug. :D Quote
Parrothead Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 The whiny voice is EXACTLY how I heard it! :D Oh! Wait! That might have been MY voice, whining with you! It's hard, but so worth it! I haven't been healthy since I became "plump!" Maybe we can do this, if we know we're whining together!;) So did you go do some exercise type activity? Quote
Mom-ninja. Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I read in a book one of the best statements that will get me up and moving. It's that no one ever feels guilty or horrible for having exercised, but almost everyone will feel guilty and horrible for not having exercised. When have you ever said to yourself, "Darn it! I should not have exercised today." However, on the flip side how many time have you been angry with yourself for not exercising? Quote
dbmamaz Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Hey, go do one for me. I injured my knee in Feb and its still not better. i had started walking more over the summer but the injury got worse. The doctor (second doctor) said he couldnt do anything until the swelling came down, so i had to stop walking again. and, yeah, i've gained some weight . . .sigh. I just want to walk the dog twice a day, take the kids to the park and walk when its nice . . . maybe even go back to martial arts (where i hurt it to start with) Quote
KungFuPanda Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 You exercise in the MORNING? Blech no wonder you're whiny. Mornings here are for tea, pajamas, and to start the easiest subjects just to build a little momentum. I can't even face breakfast until we're two subjects in. I generally shower/dress during my kids' first break. I don't trust perky morning people. Quote
Joyofsixreboot Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Keep making yourself!:grouphug: I still can't say I hop out of bed dying to go outside but by the time I'm done I can feel all smug and superior:tongue_smilie: Today I can't run for a number of reasons and I feel icky. It took 6 months to get to this point but hey, I did get here.:D Quote

However, if I don't work out in the morning it's so much harder to get it done later. I don't do well exercising with food in my stomach. Even if it's been 2 hours since I've eaten I'll feel queasy. So I get up and have a glass of OJ and off I go. Quote
Mommyfaithe Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 That is why I do mine in the evening.....no dragging my heinie out the door Pre coffee, work and school. By 5, I am ready to run away....so.....off to the gym I run! Quote

I've been really depressed this week, so I've allowed myself to have relaxing mornings in bed. justLisa Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I am completely useless in the morning. I drink two cups of coffee before I realize I am conscious. You are way ahead just for even THINKING of doing this Quote
Sarah CB Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Wow!!!! I wish I could get up and do that.....good thing my gym has evening hours?.... I'm thankful for the morning time slot. I am a brain-dead slug by 5pm. The problem I'm facing now with working out in the morning is that the morning used to be my creative and productive time alone. Now I'm at the gym and by the time I'm back and showered the kids are up and ready for me. No quiet productive morning time anymore :( Quote
Elinor Everywhere Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 (edited) I've been riding my bike for 2 miles a day. Not very far, but I throw the dog in my basket and we ride to the local ps and pick my dd up after her morning band class. I need to do much more than that, though. It's just that if I'm not walking or riding TO someplace - in other words, for a purpose - I find it incredibly boring. Sometimes I ride farther and run an errand, but it's not consistent. It was so easy when we lived in Hong Kong. No car, and we walked everywhere and took subways and ferries. But even then, we walked to GET to the public transportation. Love that style of life! KrissiK Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I feel your pain. I had the same problem, until.... DH had this great idea. We both felt that the problem with getting up wasn't that we weren't getting enough sleep, it was getting up when it was dark. So, if we put one of the lamps on a timer then it would be light in the bedroom when we needed to get up and it wouldn't be a problem, right? Hmph! It's the lamp right next to my side of the bed and it has a very bright bulb. The first morning it happened it scared the carp out of me, I sat bolt upright in bed, turned the light off, but by then my heart was pumping so fast there was no falling back to sleep, so I decided to just get up and walk. Then, last night I decided I wasn't going to let that happen again, so I turned the light off. At least I thought I did. But, I hadn't. Same thing. It's not a very pleasant experience, but at least it gets me out of bed and exercising. You should try it. Quote

Parrothead Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 LOL! No! I ended up staying here on the forums too long, and we had to leave the house! Week before last I walked maybe four miles total, then last week ZERO!!! Hopefully, we will walk tonight after supper, and I can start the weekend off right! When someone walks with me, we walk outside, but my treadmill is right beside my bed! You'd think I could get up and step on!!!:tongue_smilie:  Okay. Monday morning you and me on the treadmill for 45 minutes. Quote

Happy Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 All I have to do when I hear myself whining about not wanting to exercise is picture my very overweight relative...for the last 25 years of her life she was trapped in a overweight body. It was difficult for her to even walk acoss the room...NO FUN at all. The image is enough to get me up and out. Someone once told me every hour I exercise now is a day in the future I live to play with grandchildren. That's also motivating. Mostly I remember to tell myself I want to be healthy, strong, and flexible as long as I can. One of my friends is an 84 year old gal. She walks to the store every day. She can get down on the floor and back up again. She is my hero! :) Quote

ksr5377 Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) I just stole this idea from a friend who I am sure found it on pinterest or something, but it's basically to make yourself a little tip jar and then tip yourself $1 every time you work out. Then, when you get to $100, go splurge on yourself. Now of course my initial thought was "Wow, that would take a really long time to get to $100, maybe I should tip myself $5?" Then I realized that was the point, and if I wanted to get there sooner I should probably exercise more than twice a week.:D Edited November 10, 2012 by ksr5377 I can't spell. Quote
Lizzie in Ma Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Me either, come over, we will start drinking early and catch up on Netflix. :D Quote
Parrothead Posted November 12, 2012 Author Posted November 12, 2012 Are you with me? I'm going in in 5 minutes! I'm up! I'm up! It was a bad night for sleeping. But yeah, I'll be there on that **&$ machine as soon as I finish my first cup of tea. Quote
Ottakee Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Plump is healthy...as long as you're eating right and getting regular exercise.;) :iagree:I was going to say that as well. I AM overweight and am slowly working towards loosing weight but honestly , I think that I am over all healthier than I was when I was at a "perfect" weight in highschool/college. I do horse chores 3x day which equals about 1+ hour of work. I can load and unload 100 bales of hay (not fast but they weight 40-70 pounds each), ride my horse almost daily, walk 4 miles with friends, etc. I am also trying to do pilates daily. While I am overweight, my blood work is PERFECT, my blood pressure is so good that the last time I went to the doctor the nurse asked if I had just gotten up (NO, I had already done an hour of chores, and exercised), I am very rarely sick, etc. Quote
PiCO Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Plump is healthy...as long as you're eating right and getting regular exercise.;) :iagree: I had pretty disordered eating when I was in college. I have had much better luck focusing on blood sugar and blood lipids than on weight. Here's a book I read recently on this subject: Don't Die Early Quote
