1pageatatime
I have my eye on book five, but from the online samples I can't tell the difficulty level. Any experience with this series appreciated. TIA!:)
Dmmetler
I have basically all of them. My DD enjoys them. I'd say maybe 3rd-6th grade level. My DD enjoys drawing, and does a lot of "how to draw books", so has been able to follow those reasonably well, but I often have to have her copy a few sentences of the copywork each day over a week or more because she doesn't have the stamina to write the full passage. I'd suggest them for the 2nd time through the history cycle more than the 1st. Be aware that all the writing is in cursive.
wonderfilled
My boys, ages 7-12, have produced absolutely beautiful pictures with these. They really enjoyed them.
Esse Quam Videri
We had the first two, and they did not work well for us. The "writing" is not writing prompts, it is cursive copywork. The drawing steps are decent, but they are in no way a comprehensive drawing program. I suppose I was just expecting too much... Also, I believe each book only has maybe 5 or 10 projects? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
1pageatatime
My 11ds is currently doing Sonlight Core E & Beautiful Feet's Western Expansion, so I was thinking book 5 would fit in nicely. He's not great at drawing, but enjoys it. Do the books increase in difficulty or could we just jump in? Thanks, again! :)
Edwena
I am copying and pasting a review that I recently posted on another forum:When we first started Preparing 12 weeks ago the Draw and Write Through History book was hard for my dd (8 yrs). I sat with her for about four weeks every time there was an assignment from the book pointing out things, but she did all the drawing. I think a lot was a confidence issue. Now I try to never compare my dc, but seriously dd started to do better than ds (10yrs). One day I told her, I didn't know why she dreaded it so much that she was doing beautifully (had previously told her this), but when I showed her how much better her drawing was than her brother's it was like a switch clicked in her head. From then on she did the drawings by herself and they are just beautiful. She even this week did the advanced portion on the Phoenician ship. When ds was drawing a certain dinosaur for his science pg last week, he specifically told me, "Momma, I just applied Draw and Write principles to it." This meant a lot to me as I've heard from other homeschoolers that books like this don't actually teach a child to draw, it teaches them to copy. I can say this has not been the situation in our home. My children are learning to apply the principles to their other drawings. We are about to the end of the book, but I'm already looking forward to next year's book.

3peasinapod
We have used 4 of the books. There are about 10 drawing projects in each book. They don't progress in difficulty, so you can jump in where ever you want. We don't use the cursive section, though the information contained in that section is very useful for notebooking. The girls have learned some techniques from this series. I have sometimes needed to sit down and draw with them to get them started, and they would follow the book and my cues, but most of the time now they can dig in by themselves. We love them, and plan on using the whole series.
