Only me
Every year since my children were born I have given them a Christmas themed book for Christmas. They each have quite a collection now. The problem is now that they are older it is so difficult to find a book that they don't already own or that is to young for them. I would appreciate it if you could post some ideas. We may already own the titles but at least that way I can see if there are any good ones we have missed. The books are for 20 year old dd, 17 year old dd and 14 year old ds. Thanks so much! jar7709
How about some books about history of Christmas or alternative winter traditions? I love love love my copy of The Christmas Tree Book, I have fond memories of flipping through it at my mom's house as a teen and comparing our modern traditions to the olden days. I still look through it every year. It is unfortunately out of print but not to difficult to find used. If you are interested in other winter celebrations, The Winter Solstice is fascinating. Or fun Christmasy craft books or beautifully illustrated or annotated copies of classics like Nutcracker or A Christmas Carol?
vonfirmath
I just checked this book out of the library and I'm loving it! Texas Christmas: As Celebrated under the Six Flags. By Elizabeth Dearing Morgan. Though it appears you'd want to buy used at these prices. http://www.amazon.com/Texas-Christmas-Celebrated-Under-Flags/dp/1571680675/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1352319116&sr=8-2&keywords=Texas+Christmas+Morgan

aggieamy
A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote Isn't this terribly sad? Every year on St. Nicholas Day I give DD a new Christmas book and am always adding books to the list. Two books on my list for the older years that I haven't seen mentioned yet are: Best Christmas Pageant Ever James Herriot's Treasury for Children (there's a Christmas story in there and we all love his writing)
Stacia
Isn't this terribly sad? It is somewhat sad, but in a nostalgic way. It's really a lovely story, imo.
vonfirmath
Also, if your girls have Kindles, perhaps you can give them a duplicate copy of a book they have in book form, except give the Kindle/Nook/whatever version.

TGHEALTHYMOM
:001_smile: I am so happy to hear of this! Of course I have bought many Christmas books, but usually just read them aloud and buy Mad Libs or chapter books on sale for gifts. I am trying to think of cheap gifts and books are on my list... just had not thought of Christmas books... An adult dc might like an advent book? We use The Advent Jessie Tree devotional ad have made the ornaments to place on a small tree. Myra
Happy Mom of Three - Would you mind listing your 20 books you already have....as I always buy a new book for Christmas, too, and maybe you have some ones on there that I don't .............yet! I tend to go the children's picture book route as I love the beautiful and rich colors in the illustrations and even my teenage boys still like to select one to read out loud (a tradition we have!) each Christmas eve. My favorite ones are always Jan Brett's especially The Christmas Trolls! Myra
