Michele B
dd11 is taking apart her sister's now defunct Nintendo DSI, trying to learn what makes it work. She says she wants to learn about that in science. I cannot even think what science that is! What is it, and what books should we look at? Curricula? Thanks! TengoFive
I would call it electronics or computer science. Snap Circuits might be a nice addition to your science.
Farrar
Engineering. I'm seconding Snap Circuits as an entry into that. Lego Mindstorms might be another avenue (it's robotics). Arduino is another robotics thing. There's also programming things like Scratch and other computer science resources out there. The Way Things Work by David Macauley is a nice big book about this stuff. And I'm sure others will have more ideas for you.
Arcadia
The circuitry of the Nintendo is under electronics, how it works would be programming.
