vonfirmath
To avoid derailing another thread: I think there is a key line in your post: We think differently. We all do. What works organizationally for any given person may not work for others. Some people need things organized visually--where they can see everything. That's why, for instance, they pile stuff. They can see it. That is anathema to many naturally organized people. *light bulb* I'm a piler! This is SO TRUE! Any other clues that can help be more organized in a way that works for me? Rebel Yell
look at where things are. Then find a better/prettier way to keep them there. For example, if you have a pile of shoes by the door or next to the recliner, get a pretty basket and keep them there. Stop fighting with yourself by trying to keep them in a stand-up shoe rack in the closet. KWIM? If you have a pile of books next to your bed, get a small bookshelf and get rid of the pretty decorative table.
Mrs Mungo
Do you post-its everywhere? That is a visual thing. The problem with visual people is that if things start getting cluttered, then it is over stimulating and they get overwhelmed. I am a piler, but they have to be neat piles or it is a disaster. I haven't figured out a solution though *sigh* The closest I've come so far is using a to-do list app on my phone and putting everything I can think of on it, as well as keeping a big spiral-bound, hard-cover notebook that I love in my "work" space in the kitchen. I put all to-dos that occur to me outside the kitchen on the app (which lives on my home screen, so I see it constantly), and I write anything and everything down in my notebook as well. Between the two, I'm doing a little better! Edited November 5, 2012 by Sweet Morning Air
Rebel Yell
I have another tip that works miracles for me... I "file" in piles- but in ZIPTOP BAGS! I buy tons and tons of zippy bags in all sizes. I have baskets and boxes of papers and stuff in clear bags. I stand up my gallon zip-bag-files in shoeboxes.
