AnnaM
I am trying to understand sizes. I am looking at a dress on ebay that does not have the measurements and it is labeled a size S. The seller says she is a true size 6 and it was a little too snug on her. I asked a friend if a 6 was a S and she said yes, that a S is anywhere from a 2 to a 8. I don't understand this? If I order a small I could be getting a dress that might be a 2 but could be an 8? The obvious answer to this is not to purchase unless I have the actual measurements but I was just wondering what the actual sizes for S and M were according to US standards. I am getting conflicting info on google.
Slartibartfast
I think....XS should be 0-2, S should be 4-6, and M should be 8-10 That is what I thought anyways....2-8 seems like a huge range.
OrganicAnn
I think a Small is a size 5/6 usually smaller than that is labled Toddler as in 2T, 3T, etc. You can find a 5T. Six comes in 6 or 6x which is a little bit bigger than 6. Medium is generally 7/8. It can vary by manufacture and come in different groupings 6 to 8 or 8 to 10. Snickerdoodle
I think you should ask the seller for the exact measurements of the piece.
Mom23Boys
I usually see small (2-4), medium (6-8) and large (10-12). Part of the problem with clothing sizes is they vary from brand to brand.

Tap
Check the brand's website. They will usually list the measurements on the size information page. Most common is xs 0-2 s 4-6 m 6-8 l 10-12 Edited November 6, 2012 by Tap, tap, tap
Barb_
It may be snug because she is a 6 in stores with more generous sizing, or it may be because the dress has shrunk some.
KungFuPanda
There IS no standard U.S. sizing. I have everything from zero-8 in my closet. I'm 'guessing' I'm actually a 6 in 80s sizes. If garments come in S,M, or L I generally order a medium. However, if XS is a choice, I order the Small. XS tends to fit my 95 lb teenager. In The Great White North
You are getting conflicting info because there is no standard. :iagree: It's hopeless without the measurements. I was in a store this weekend with dd, who found items in sizes 0, small, medium and large that fit. All in the same store.
