Targhee
If you had to choose just one of d'Aulaire's biographies (just to read because it is interesting and fun) which one would you choose? or is there another outstanding, short biography of a leader you like, suitable to be read to a precocious 1st grader? Thanks for the input.
hswarden
I wouldn't call those d'Aulaire biographies exactly short. If you like interesting and fun, I think better loved than d'Aulaire at least in my house, is the series by the Johnsons, "The Value of..." I am looking at one here, "...Respect," which is on Abraham Lincoln. They are based around character qualities, but not like many cheesy character virtue books. My kids of all ages (up to 14 or so anyway) read them over and over. I find many in the library, but you'll have to do an author search. Ann Donnegan Johnson wrote many of them, and others were written by Spencer Johnson. I see some for a penny on Amazon tonight!
