Yes, I've had that happen, both when I was getting an ear infection and other times when it didn't develop into a full-blown infection. I think it's the fluid in your ears.

Could it be an outter ear infection---meaning in the canal but not behind the ear drum? Something like swimmers ear. That can be very itchy and extremely painful when full blown.

yes, i was just doing some googling and it looks like maybe an outer ear thing-I had some flakiness in there when I itched one day and they mention that as a symptom (besides the itchiness).

Not sure yet if I should go to the doc or not for it....

I just went through the same thing. I treated it by taking lots of vitamin C and D, keeping my fluids way up, putting hot compresses on the affected ear whenever I could, and using warm olive oil- mashed garlic drops (I strained out the garlic first after letting it steep for quite a while). Held this last in place with a cotton ball.

Thanks for the tips! I'd love to avoid a dr. visit. I will try these things. I am just a little nervous about putting anything wet like oil in there because the websites I read said to keep it dry if it is an outer ear infection (which could be fungal, etc.) I will try all those other things first and see how it goes. Thank you!

I was very prone to outer ear infections. In the old days, I would be given oral antibiotics, and put up with all the side effects, but now they have those great drops. When I was overseas and had a bad one, the doctor didn't want to give me oral antibiotics because I was pregnant, so he gave me antibiotic ointment instead. I just put a little in there with a Q tip, and it worked. Now when I feel something coming on, I do the same thing. I don't know if it's kosher or not, but because of it, I haven't had a problem in many years...and I can still hear. I know some infections can be fungal, but this has worked for me, whatever it is.
