gingersmom Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Our power went out around 6pm last night. I was awoken at 630 this morning by a call from my town saying don't leave the house. I could drive to my mother with power in NYC if the bridge is open. I found a motel that takes dogs 30 minutes away but not sure if they have power. The local shelter they set up is 15 minutes away and I am fairly certain all the roads to it are impassable. I am going to knit when it gets light, walk the dog a lot, eat a lot of cookies from the defrosting freezer and attempt to take a freezing cold shower. It's going to be a long day!!! Quote
Starr Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I'm happy to camp but being home without power isn't fun. I hope yours comes on soon. :grouphug: Quote
nono Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Well the answer is it all depends. 3 1/2 years ago, we had a blizzard/noreaster that took out power to 90% of our island. It took over 2 weeks for everyone to be restored. This storm? Our power was back in minutes. At the moment, I'd heed the call from your town. We have a lot of debris down here (and still have power) and the powers that be are asking us to stay put for at least the morning so that anything dangerous can be secured or at least marked as a hazard. Having folks out and trying to be about is just going to hinder the progress. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I hope it comes back quicker than you anticipate. Quote
