swimmermom3
Please tell me someone else out there is struggling to figure out where everything is on their new Windows 8. This was not my choice, but I had to buy a new laptop. I think I have sworn more in the past ten hours than in the past ten years. I am afraid lightning will strike and it will have nothing to do with Sandy. Those shifting "charms" are doing me in.
Shawna in Texas
Lisa!!! Can't really help. Sorry. One of my dear friends works in IT and is a Windows guru. All he's put on FB this past week is his not so fun adventures with Windows 8. I think he ended up installing Ubuntu along side it. I have Fedora on my Windows 7 machine. I think the only thing we use it for is one of dd's toys that you have to sync.
Trillian
Yes, I've been hating it a while now. Here's some things I've figure out (that may or may not help you): 1. Work off the desktop (accessed from the start files), it works more like Windows 7, 2. In Adobe Reader, Ctrl P to print, there's no more icon to click, 3. Alt F4 (I think) closes windows you can't find other ways to close, 4. When you get into the corner and the tools show up, act fast because it's hard to get them to show up and they disappear quickly. I've spent a lot of time hovering just to turn the computer off. DH is a computer guy and there's quite a few things I've had to wait for him to come home to figure out. I know they are competitors, but I agree with a quote I read (paraphrased) from someone from Apple, you could merge a toaster and a refrigerator, but why would you want to? Shawna in Texas
This might make it easier.
TeaTotaler
Lisa, I have no advice but I can so relate. :grouphug: See my recent post:http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=436345. I don't even know how to embed a link. Never mind figuring out Win 8.:tongue_smilie: Please tell me someone else out there is struggling to figure out where everything is on their new Windows 8. I spend most of my time on the desktop, but it is virtually impossible to pull up the charms in order to log off. I can get the charms to show up in the start menu, but if you are working from a laptop, you have to make sure you keep your finger to the left of the mousepad, otherwise you can't catch the settings button to turn off the computer. I hate not being able to use Mozilla or Chrome yet. I can see where it might be better when we have touch screens for the computer, but then you have to lift your hands. Toaster and refrigerator, yes.
swimmermom3
This might make it easier. Hey Shawna, I was just reading about that last night and think it looks like a plan. I don't want to be a techno phobe, but I dislike things that slow me down and there is some really irritating stuff on here.
