I'd really like to try this lifestyle, but...

Recommended Posts

I'm becoming convinced that the primal diet would be very beneficial. All these supplements and shakes sound like quality products. But I was wondering if anyone with more experience with supplements can suggest some equally quality products (maybe from Vitacost?) that would be more affordable? Yes, I know that in many cases you get what you pay for. But I also know that there are some quality supplements that are more affordable...I just don't know how to make the comparisons. Anyone with more experience would be very appreciated!

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Wow! Those are expensive -- and they have an automatic rebill.

Most Paleo or Primal books or blogs I've read specifically mention using real food as much as possible.

I'm not strictly Paleo, so I can't speak for this though. (I am gluten-free, though.) I use Melaleuca products and am very happy with them. They have protein shake mix, vitamins, etc., and are quite reasonable in price.

Don't buy supplements or prepackaged shakes.

Just eat real food.

:iagree::iagree: I like Mark Sisson and his books (and his daily emails), but his book stresses the importance of REAL food, as do all the Paleo books.

I occasionally use protein powder in a green smoothie if my morning is tight and I can't stomach the thought of eggs, but that's rare. No need for expensive supplements - use that money on good-quality food!

I eat LC with a lot of paleo/primal influence. I do use protein powder from time to time. I use Jarrow unflavored (eligible for amazon prime; no sweeteners and no flavoring) or Jay Robb whey PP, which is stevia sweetened. The unsweetened stuff I add to smoothies and add a touch of stevia in. Both of these are fairly "clean" for PPs, although they certainly aren't necessary. I use them when traveling, or sometimes when it is really hot out and I don't want a hot breakfast, or occasionally in baking if the recipe calls for them. THey aren't a significant part of my diet.

You DEFINITELY do NOT have to take all the supplements to be "Primal". And Mark Sisson (who runs that site) agrees. Food is the best way to go.

But I do use the multi packet and the fish oil from Primal Blueprint. Very high quality supplements, and they don't make me feel ill like a lot of pills do. The multi-packs have most of what I want to take for my own health, so they save me buying 20 different bottles of pills.

The protein shakes from Primal Nutrition are fabulous, I received some free samples with my first vitamin order... but I don't use them because I prefer actual food.

As for the auto-ship, you can request the ship interval be whatever you want. I get a shipment every 2 months, because I don't take as many pills as they suggest.
