Gentlemommy
So, four days ago my mom found a little chihuahua dog. My dd7 has been asking for a small dog for almost two years now, and we had promised her one for her 8th birthday. After doing what we could to locate this dogs owners (he is microchipped, but not registered, put up flyers, put his picture up on the community Facebook page, drove through the two surrounding neighborhoods to check for signs, talked to neighbors) I told my mom we would 'foster' him. If we haven't found his family within a week, we will keep him. Ok, anyway, he is perfect. Really. I don't even LIKE chihuahuas. I think they are ugly and mean. :001_huh:But this little guy, he is so incredibly sweet. He's young, I'd say between 3-5 years, house trained, leash trained, doesn't bark or yip, doesn't cower, he is playful and fun and such a great little dog. He gets along with our dog and cat, and most importantly, with the kids. The first three days, he was very playful, running all over, jumping up, ect. Today, he's been very quiet, sleeping, snuggling with someone all day. He went potty fine, but hasn't wanted to eat. We take the dogs out for walks 3x per day, and he was fine all three times. Do you think maybe he's just exhausted from the first three days? We took him everywhere with us, and the kids have been playing with him a lot. Or maybe he misses someone? Or could he be sick? Is it normal for a rescued/new dog to be fine and then quiet down for a few days? Just need to know when I should take him to the vet...he drank water today and had a homemade treat, but not his normal food, which he has been eating fine until today. It's a bit colder (for us Floridians lol) today, maybe he's cold? Our other dog is a Samoyed, so I never think about it being cold for her lol. Anyway, any advice is welcome! Thank you! LibraryLover
Make sure you check with the local shelters and your town animal control. Most folks let these local authorities know when a pet is lost.
Gentlemommy
Yes, I forgot, I did go to the animal shelter the next day after we got him. I also checked on the lost dog posting on their forum.
Pawz4me
My guess is he's feeling a little more relaxed in his new-found home and is tired from all the activity. Just keep an eye on him-- you don't want him to go too long w/o eating, since little dogs can be prone to hypoglycemia. As long as he's eating at least a small amount (the little ones really don't need much to keep going), drinking enough, his "output" is okay, eyes are clear and gums are pink then he's probably just tired from all the activity and is catching up on rest. You might also check the lost dog postings on Craigslist, and in your local paper.
