sandellie4
I have a new iPad and we are not friends. I can't figure out how to do things and when I pull up the User Guide in the Bookmarks, all the sections are easy to read, but under the Basics tab, there are only about four items. Am I supposed to turn the page or something? Or is that really it? If anyone can help me with the following, please let me know. I am so frustrated, searching all over the web for basic questions like this: Whenever I tap on an icon on my Home screen, it opens to the most recent place I was. I can't figure out how to get rid of the most recent screen, so I can do something else (there's no Done button, or X, or?). For example, I updated an app this morning and now whenever I tap the App Store icon, it takes me back to the page that says there are no further updates needed. But how do I get to the "home screen" I usually get when I open the App Store? I can't change the screen informing me that there are no further updates. I'm stuck in Updates because I was previously stuck on the Genius screen after I accidentally opened it from the dock at the bottom of the screen. I didn't activate it or anything, but I couldn't close it. It wouldn't change screens until I tapped something else on the dock at the bottom of the screen. I taped Update, because I noticed there was a number on the icon, and now I'm no longer stuck on the Genius invitation page, I'm stuck on the All Apps are Updated page. I've tried restarting by holding down the power button until the apple appears on the screen and then waiting a couple of minutes before turning back on. Still the App Store icon opens up on the same Updates page, the last place I visited. Sandy (in a state of desperation)
Mabeline
You can get out of the updates in iTunes by touching any of the other buttons on the bottom of the page. I think that is what you are asking but I am not sure.
thewaka
It wouldn't change screens until I tapped something else on the dock at the bottom of the screen. Assuming by "dock" you mean "Featured," "Genius", etc, that is exactly how you change screens :D "Featured" is possibly the App Store home you referred to. PeterPan
I never use the app store on my ipad, so I can't help you there. However to close an app, just hit the home button. You can also swipe with your fingers to get to other apps that you have open. You know the other thing, not to be tacky but it works for me, is to just hand it to your kid. They can probably figure it out. :)

sandellie4
Hahaha. I am actually on a Mommy Break and am visiting my husband's parents. That is exactly what I would normally do -- hand it to one of the kiddies! The buttons on the bottom of the screen of the Apps Store? I had no idea...all I had to do was touch the favorites button. OMG, I so stink at this!! Thanks so much for answering my post. TKDmom
Ok, I'm trying to understand what you're trying to do. :tongue_smilie: I have my iPad's app store open and it's currently on the update page (updating things...) To get to another screen on the app store you would click on one of the icons at the bottom of the screen (featured is probably what looks like the "home screen" for the app store). At the top of the "featured" screen, there are buttons for different categories if you want to browse apps, and also a search bar to search for specific apps. If you want to get out of the app store, you click on the home button (which I assume you know because you mentioned looking at your bookmarks). I think the app store will always open up to the last thing you were doing--it's not like an internet browser on the computer where you start fresh each time you open the window. Did that help at all? ETA: It looks like you figured it out. A lot of other apps are the same, where there are little buttons and icons at the top or bottom of the screen that will take you to other views/screens.
