staying at the Disney Polynesian Resort

Recommended Posts

It is a really nice resort. I tried to think of where would be best to stay and it all comes down to your families needs. Do you want to be near the pools, transportation, or restaurants. View of lagoon-- not sure if those are standard rooms but would be great for fireworks. Each part does have advantanges. Make sure to have a dole whip at Captain Cooks while you are there. Yum!

The Polynesian is great. Did you request adjoining rooms when you made your reservations? They will try and link the rooms if you did. Be aware that in Disney-speak, "adjoining" rooms are next to or close to each other, but they are NOT connecting rooms. If you want a door between your rooms that when opened, makes it one big hotel room, you need to request "connecting" rooms. Which they may or may not be able to give you, but they do their best.

Be sure to eat breakfast at Kona Cafe. The tonga toast, macadamia nut pancakes and "the Samoan" are to die for!!

We always request ground floor. That way DH can grab us snack/drinks after the girls go to bed without disturbing them, while I wait on the patio (he can just walk right off of the patio to the GCH). Not sure how old you children are, but when we still used a stroller it was also always nice to not have to worry about waiting on the elevator when we were on the ground floor.

We stayed there one year when my parents joined us, and I requested connecting rooms, ground floor, in that order. Having the connecting rooms was most important us. We got both requests.

Something else to note, in many of the longhouses there are no balconies on the second floor, instead it's basically a step out from the sliding glass door.

on our information from the travel agent, she did request "connecting" rooms. But we were wondering if it would be a good idea for us to call ahead too and request that again. My inlaws will be arriving in the afternoon (what time is check in anyway?) and of course they will also request connecting rooms. The ground floor idea is a good idea too...

When are you traveling?

You can't really call the Polynesian directly to make any sort of room requests because they aren't actually done there. They have a centralized place where they do all of the room assignments. The place to call is just the regular Disney number, be sure to have you reservation numbers handy! However, if your TA already made the request, them it should be there.

If you do online check-in, then your connecting room request should show up.

ETA: official check in is 3:00, but you can check in at any time and bell services will hold your luggage if you room isn't ready. If you do online check-in, you put in your arrival time. That way they can try to have the rooms ready for those arriving early first.

I've never stayed at the Polynesian, so I can't help you there....but our experience has been that the search for connecting rooms pretty much consumes all the brainpower and energy of the desk staff, and they have little left over for other requests. Not to say it's not worth asking, but make sure you let them know that connecting rooms is the most important thing (assuming it is) and don't be surprised if it makes it harder to get your other requests.

I tried to figure out how to do the on line check in, but I can't figure it out...can some one please tell me...I went to the offical site, found "On line check in"..but never found the actual page where you can "check in".

also, can my in-laws pick up our room key for us (since they will be there first and they are paying for the rooms?)
