love2read
with a sign that says "Free, works fine." We were getting rid of it because we bought a new flatscreen and are a one TV family. It was one of those big, heavy numbers and we just don't need it. A fellow stops, tries to pick it up but discovers it's too heavy, and motions one of my kids for help. I go out and he tries to get me to help him. I'm in my mid 50s, obviously out of shape and he wants me to pick up a 100 pound TV from the ground with him. He started arguing with me about it  really mad! I went inside thinking that next time I would just put things out on garbage day. It's gone now and I'm wondering if he came back with a friend or just missed out on a freebie because the fat lady in the house wouldn't pick up the TV for him. What are people thinking? He looked so normal and respectable.

dbmamaz
 people. but have you ever been on freecycle? crazy ppl made me quit, i just got too mad . . . ppl asking for free laptops . . . ppl asking for free coffee maker, but only if it was programmable ... ELECTRIC hedge-trimmer . . . and then ppl posting 4 times in 30 minutes, angry because someone didnt get back to them yet? oy. kinda glad we live in the middle of nowhere so we CANT put free stuff out. although the last time I did a big purge, I put a bunch of stuff out, including some mattresses and a desk and who knows what, and I was going to call the county to get it, but before I did, it was gone. I called my garbage company and they said they didnt take it, and the county charges . . . so i'm still kind baffled about that

They'd be blacklisted in no time! Crazy. You are allowed a certain number of "want" posts. You can post as many things to give away as you'd like. You are supposed to consolidate your posts though which is absolutely necessary as it is HARD to get through a hour or two worth of posts in a timely fashion as it is. You also always have to give a location. And the moderators are very clear that it isn't a matter of first come OR the saddest sob story. We had people asking for cars, trailers (to live in). It was insane! What pushed me over the edge was someone wanting something but not picking it up for a week. Dude, I want it gone, if you can't pick it up today I'll find someone who can.
crazyforlatin
Maybe post a price, put the item next to the curb, and when they run away with it, they think they are getting a great steal, I mean, deal. Cuz "free" means something else apparently.
dbmamaz
I stayed long enough to get three things . .. someone had some boy baby shirts in the size my son was wearing, and i picked them up - but it was all undershirts, like totally white ones with the split shoulders? not really worth picking up, i just trashed them i got an iced tea pot which i still use - only because the person who had agreed to take it never came and I said i'd be right over! those were both really nearby. then i wanted a kitten, but everyone was far away. so one man said he'd bring his kittens to us. We wanted two, and he had a pair that were esp attached to each other. So he showed up w a cat carrier and 5 all-black kittens. He opened up the lid in the middle of my kitchen . .. with my three kids and my German shepherd dog all running to see! the cats flew to all corners of the house! he managed to gather up three and assured us the remaining ones were the right ones, and hurried on out lol! We still have the cats, though. They are . . um. . rather anti-social. it was pretty clear the kittens had never been handled. interesting to hear it is better managed some places. makes sense, though.
