Tap
I would like to drink more tea and plan to buy an electric hot water kettle to simplify my mornings. I am really busy running up and down the stairs getting the kids ready as soon as my feet hit the floor. I don't like to heat water on the stove, because I will forget and leave it boiling away. I think an electric kettle may be the answer. I would like one with variable temps as I drink many different types of tea and would love an easy way to accomplish optimal temperatures for brewing. Any suggestions?
DarlaS
I was just looking at these on amazon this morning. Apparently you can buy a darn near $100 electric kettle and the thing will still have bad reviews (stuff like nearly setting people's homes on fire, which is hard to overlook...). I've just about decided if I do get one, to go with a hot water heater instead. Possibly this one: http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-CD-WBC30-Electric-3-Liter-Champagne/dp/B0011528S0/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1350272016&sr=1-1&keywords=Zojirushi+CD-WBC30 ETA: Nice careful choice of wording on your title there. You know this crowd well! :D Edited October 15, 2012 by darlasowders

LOLOLOLOL I was hoping for something cheaper but will spend the money on quality if I need to. I had to leave for work and couldn't keep researching. I would love something with a stainless interior, variable settings, and an insulated pot. Edited October 15, 2012 by Tap, tap, tap

I found this that seems to meet your description: http://www.amazon.com/Spt-5-Liter-Stainless-Multi-Temp-Feature/dp/B004LO9VLU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Also this one: http://www.amazon.com/Secura-Electric-SWB-43G-Stainless-Interior/dp/B005GJSBEC/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1350308001&sr=1-1&keywords=secura+water+boiler I wish it had a timer though. If we were to switch to french press coffee, my dh, who gets up at 5 AM, would not be patiently waiting for hot water. At all. The necessity of a timer might force me into purchasing the Zojirushi. At least water isn't acidic, and what are the chances of it getting scratched? Edited October 15, 2012 by darlasowders
Ellie
I only drink beverages that use boiling water, so that's the only temperature I care about. I have a Silex that's about 8yo, and it's been great. I prefer one that I can pick up and pour, as opposed to the Zoji, because I use it every time I need to boil water for anything (some cake recipes need boiling water, for example). My main criteria are that it cuts itself off automatically when it boils, and that it's easy to actually get water into it in the first place (some have awkward placements of handles/lids). blessed3x
I have this one. I use it every morning for hot tea and it works very well. It does have the auto shut off once the water is boiling. A local cooks store in my area also sells it and highly recommends it. ;)
kengjw
I was looking for an inexpensive one but want something relliable so I ended up buying this one because of the reviews. It has worked really well for us for quick tea, hot water etc. http://www.amazon.com/Aroma-AWK-115S-X-Press-2-Liter-Cordless/dp/B000KDVTJI/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1350309220&sr=1-3&keywords=electric+kettle Julia

Doesn't do anything fancy but it does boil water and that's exactly what I need it for.
