I'm needing my 4th grader to have some independent subjects where I can teach and give an assignment, etc. How conducive is this program to student independent work? thanks! The grammar practice book can be done independently, but the other components are taught via Socratic discussion. justLisa Posted October 12, 2012 Share Posted October 12, 2012 We do 30 minutes a day 4xwk. But yes, it is basically ALL "teacher" intensive. I am doing it with my 6 and 8 year old's together IMO young students don't get much out of independent grammar. You could try GWG. My 6th grader is doing Voyage as independently as possible (his preference), but I still spend about 20 minutes per day, 3x per week with him. Mandylubug Posted October 12, 2012 Share Posted October 12, 2012 I suppose it is considered teacher intensive being that you read and discuss it with the child but it is a pleasant time intensive. They enjoy it; I enjoy it. I do both boys together at the same level and I put their practice sentences on the whiteboard and let them discuss it and label the parts of the sentence, etc... It isn't as intensive as math, imo... but like I said our family enjoys all of it so perhaps thats why it doesn't seem like much work.
