Soror
Suddenly last week I've had these red dry patches come up. I've never had any issues with my face at all. It is generally not dry or oily and my complexion is generally even. Now all of a sudden I have these 2 patches. I'm 34 weeks pregnant is this related, does anyone know? My lips have been crazy dry as well and I don't know if it is related, it is looking rather wretched though. I did start wearing more make-up than usual and switched brands a few weeks ago, could that perhaps be it? It is not particularly itchy, it feels like sandpaper and shea butter and coconut oil didn't touch it.
Ali in OR
I don't know what it is but will speak from my own experience anyway! I would be suspicious of the makeup and stop using it. I've had problems with what is kind of like eczema on my neck and sometimes around my mouth or eyelids, definitely itchy so not the same as what you have. The dermatologist says it's allergy related though we'll probably never know exactly what I'm reacting to. But one of the first things he asked about was makeup. He gave me a mild steroid for my neck which is clearing it right up (you probably can't do that while pregnant). But I wanted to say that in the months before I finally went to the dermatologist, what helped me out the most was just pure vaseline. It's still the only thing I'll use on my eyelids or around my mouth when those areas flare up. Around the mouth it's like my skin loses its barrier function--eating citrus will tingle and sting like crazy though I'm not allergic. Vaseline acts like a barrier and restores natural moisture a bit too. Something safe to try anyway.
Soror
Thanks for your thoughts. I guess I need to stop the make-up and see if that clears it up. Unfortunately now I want to keep my face covered, urgh!
Catwoman
I had a similar problem with makeup once, so I know how you feel. I remember that I touched my face and it felt really rough, and when I looked in the mirror.... well, let's just say it wasn't the look I was going for. :tongue_smilie: I guess it could be almost anything else, but I would definitely stop using the makeup. It is not particularly itchy, it feels like sandpaper and shea butter and coconut oil didn't touch it. I had a friend years ago who got a scaly red rash on her face during pregnancy. It was related to pregnancy hormones and apparently it's something that dermatologists see regularly, but my friend's OB didn't know what it was.
