BlsdMama
Netbook? Tablet? Laptop? Why one vs. the other? Obviously a tablet is HANDY, portable, but small. :( A netbook is inexpensive! A laptop is a full on computer. We're debating what to get DD for Christmas. She does a lot of writing (Word) and Excel and does school work on the computer. She does *not* do a lot of browsing or surfing, nor would we want to actually encourage that. So, my question: With the (huge) price difference between a netbook and a laptop, it would still be a good idea to get a laptop for her, yes? I am glad I listened to dh the tech guru and got a full macbook pro (vs. a macAir, with which I was enamored at the time). I have used it far more and in different ways than I could have imagined. A good one could last her into her college years. Give her a real machine. :)
DarlaS
Lenovo laptops are a very good value: Here's one that's around $400: http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-4334ECU-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B0082PT7JA/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1349812151&sr=1-2#productDetails A little nicer: http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-IdeaPad-215127U-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B0082PREUO/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1349812462&sr=1-3 Hopefully, this one (or one very similar) will soon be mine: http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-IdeaPad-20994CU-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B0082PRC1U/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1349812528&sr=1-1&keywords=IdeaPad+Y580
amyk
I got a Netbook a few years ago and it is now dead. You really can't put any programs--like Microsoft Word--on them or they don't do well. It isn't inexpensive enough to make it worth it--I would never buy another Netbook.
BlsdMama
So I hear Costco's warranty on electronics is amazing. Any experience? Thoughts? We've had a Dell laptop and we killed it. :glare: It was a nice one at the time but simply did NOT last. Is HP better?
nukeswife
Dh got me a 13" macbook pro a couple weeks ago and I love it. It's still very light but can do so much. I was worried about going to the 13" because before this I had a 17" dell laptop, but it really doesn't seem that small and it's so much lighter. The dell was like dragging around a lead weight everywhere. Oh and the battery life is outstanding on the macbook pro.
