Netbook? Tablet? Laptop?

Why one vs. the other?

Obviously a tablet is HANDY, portable, but small. :(

A netbook is inexpensive!

A laptop is a full on computer.

We're debating what to get DD for Christmas.

She does a lot of writing (Word) and Excel and does school work on the computer. She does *not* do a lot of browsing or surfing, nor would we want to actually encourage that.

So, my question:

With the (huge) price difference between a netbook and a laptop, it would still be a good idea to get a laptop for her, yes?

Yes.

I am glad I listened to dh the tech guru and got a full macbook pro (vs. a macAir, with which I was enamored at the time). I have used it far more and in different ways than I could have imagined. A good one could last her into her college years. Give her a real machine. :)

Dh got me a 13" macbook pro a couple weeks ago and I love it. It's still very light but can do so much.

I was worried about going to the 13" because before this I had a 17" dell laptop, but it really doesn't seem that small and it's so much lighter. The dell was like dragging around a lead weight everywhere. Oh and the battery life is outstanding on the macbook pro.
