Blueridge
Our local Dollar General is new in our tiny town, and along with the college crowd, gets a lot of family traffic. I have a problem with their magazine stand, which sits outside the check out counter, right next to the main door...so there is no way to avoid it. One of their magazine offerings is Maxim. Although it may not be as revealing as Playboy, it still has unbelievable cover pictures and provocative subject matter in nice big letters. Is there no law preventing stores from opening displaying this kind of material so openly? I hate for my girls to see it. :tongue_smilie:
ThisIsTheDay
:iagree: I don't think you're being a prude. For ten years, I've turned magazines over occasionally at the grocery store checkouts. I'm even embarrassed by some of the magazine covers in our library. To be clear, it's the article titles that bother me, not the fact that any specific magazine is there. Can you talk to the store manager to see if they can be moved, or if they will use the cover that Walmart (is it?) uses for Cosmopolitan that hides the cover but still shows the title? I talked to the clerk about it and sort of got a shrug but the next time I went in the unacceptable mag. were gone. Speak up!:D
Blueridge
Thank you. I will speak to the store manager this week and see if they will add a cover or just move the stinkin' thing! :)
Lizzie in Ma
That is a pet peeve of mine too. The women's magazines with their huge headlines about the best sex ever drive me bonkers. (Cosmopolitan seems to be the worst)
Library Momma
Most grocery stores around me have a family friendly aisle. No candy and/or magazines at all. You might want to ask your store manager if they could create that there.
Mrs Mungo
Is there no law preventing stores from opening displaying this kind of material so openly? I hate for my girls to see it. :tongue_smilie: Nope, there is no law forcing stores to cover up Maxim or Cosmo. But, consumer pressure works pretty well in most cases. Talk to a manager.
