HollyDay
Dd just finished a cooking class and I have 8lbs of powdered sugar leftover. I hardly ever use it, even during the holidays. Anyone have any recipes that would use this up? Preferrably something I could give for a holiday gift? Hot cocoa mix? sugar cookies?? I'm at a loss. I only use it for glaze icing
cindergretta
I am trying to remember - isn't powdered sugar used to make fondant? If it is, fondant is *fun* for kids to use for play. (We do... :tongue_smilie: )
Occasionally
I just made up a bunch of this hot cocoa mix. It's pretty good (but I leave out the cayenne.)
Whereneverever
Make a ton of crepes and let your kids fill them with bananas and powdered sugar?

PIE!
I haven't made these in a long time, but I remember them being REALLY good. Whipped Shortbread: 3 cups flour 1 lb butter (softened) 1 cup powdered sugar 1 tsp vanilla 2 cups cornstarch pinch of salt cream butter. add other ingredients gradualy. mix well. drop by tsp and press with fork. bake 325 degrees for about 15 minutes, or until light brown. cindergretta
http://www.food.com/recipe/marshmallow-fondant-255227 This is the one we use. Last year we made a ton of it and let the 3 youngest use it like play dough and the older three decorated one large cake and 2 dozen cupcakes with it. (for Halloween) Um, I just re-read that. The older kids did NOT use the same fondant as the little kids. Ew!! The stuff the littles used was eventually thrown away.

Cosmos
Make royal icing and practice cake decorating? Or make a gingerbread house? That will use a lot of powdered sugar. If the packages were unopened, I would probably just donate it. I don't use much powdered sugar at all.
BrookValley.
You need to make cupcakes. Lots and lots of cupcakes. With yummy buttercream icing. :D
Pippen
There's a Betty Crocker sugar cookie recipe that used powdered instead of granulated sugar.
DianeW88
How do you make cake frosting without powdered sugar? You needs tons of it for buttercream frosting. And I second the Betty Crocker sugar cookie recipe. That's the one I use and the cookies are very light and yummy!
Lisa in Jax
I like BrookeValley's idea. ;) In addition, how about some old-fashioned potato candy? If you've never had it, TRY. IT. It sounds weird, but it's awesome. :) http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,167,155167-225198,00.html Lisa
