Mergath
So sad. :( I know there are a lot of moms from Texas here, and apparently both children were homeschooled. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/10/05/14242841-teen-calls-911-to-report-mother-sister-dead-i-hate-the-feeling-of-killing-someone?lite

GoVanGogh
That is very close to us, though I did not know the family. They were fairly new to homeschooling, so I hate that it was even brought up. :glare: (I know it is always mentioned because people want to know what school the kids went to... But then so many people want to attack homeschooling, which I find unfair.)
Denisemomof4
The shooter just started to homeschool this year. Very tragic. :(

GinaPagnato
The awful truth is if the boy was still in school, he likely would have shot classmates rather than his mom and sister. What an awful tragedy. :(

butterflymommy
He was pulled in Jan 2012. I'm speculating the young man was having some issues before this. Poor family My thoughts exactly. His conversation with the 911 operator does not give the impression of someone of sound mind. Most teens who are taken out of school to homeschool in the last year of HS are at risk of dropping out otherwise (if anyone remembers the stats from"Dropout Nation"). higginszoo
A friend of mine said that the girl was in one of her dd's co-op classes. Definitely a sad situation, and yes, probably something that had been brewing for some time, though I can see how nobody would have imagined something like this. Chris in VA
Terribly sad. I hope that young man gets extremely good counseling as he's obviously incredibly disturbed. I feel for all of them. Imagine the guilt that the dad must feel (not saying he's responsible)--"If only I were home instead of on the trip..."
stripe
He was pulled in Jan 2012. I'm speculating the young man was having some issues before this. Poor family I too wondered if he was basically asked to leave high school. As I was just watching on Dropout Nation, kids normally don't just leave school at the very end to homeschool. I don't understand why, no matter what the problem, people seem to just reach for a gun as the "solution."
