Impish
"My mom says that public school isn't bad and that you should let Tazzie and Princess go." So sayeth the obnoxious neighbour kid. (And this kid *is* obnoxious all the time, not just cause of repeating a comment from her mother) I just LOVE being questioned on my parenting decisions by a 5 yo. Yay! My response? "That's a decision we make as their parents. For our family, we believe homeschooling is best for us." And refused to argue w/the kid. Did I mention I just ADORE 5 yos that think they have the right to tell adults what to do? And argue about what they say? Just one of my favouritest things! I know I'm up on the pain scale, and therefore crankier than normal, but still. OY!
Bree
I feel you I have 2 little neighbor kids 5 and 7 that are like that and I have to bring my kids in when they play outside...so thankfully they send their kids to ps so we have plenty of outside time...thinking of planing some privacy shrubs:tongue_smilie:
Parrothead
This is why I mostly don't like other people's kids. :D The good normal kids are few and far between. Last time I found a new nice kid I have to go to NH.
GoVanGogh
We went through that with the neighbor girl when she was five, six years old, except it was "My teacher says..." :glare: I finally went to the parents and said, "Look. I adore your kid, but I won't allow her to play with my child anymore if she continues to badmouth our educational decision."

Last time I found a new nice kid I have to go to NH. Or come to Canada, I have some :tongue_smilie: Honestly, I tend to feel the same way. The OPK that I *do* like seem to be the exception, rather than the rule...which really cuts down on the Moms you can get to know. If your kid drives me up the wall, chances are I'm not going to be able to spend time w/the mom to get to be friends, kwim? So far, I've found *one* exception here. And his Mom is cool too. :D

tex-mex
Check back with that kiddo in a few years... he may change his tune when he gets sick of early morning rituals, homework, and idiot teachers. ;) Nowadays, with my high schooler, he gets reactions by those in ps as positive. He once got a friend who wanted to be homeschooled but the parents said no.

bolt.
Well, everybody's entitled to their opinion -- even 5 year olds. It's just that 5 year olds haven't yet learned the tactful skill of not speaking their mind! Sounds like that mom has her work cut out for her. Honestly, he probably just thinks school would be more fun if your kids were there for him to play with. At five, "I want it" = "You should do it". justLisa
Well shame on that mother because 5 year olds just repeat and don't really understand why all the time. I don't tell my kids things like that. It is not a subject they can fully understand at FIVE! AND you shouldn't let your 5 year old know that you gossip about other people's kids. :glare:

stripe
"My mom says that public school isn't bad and that you should let Tazzie and Princess go." Ugh. A snotty neighbor kid asked my son yesterday what grade he was in. When my son said he doesn't go to school, the boy told him, "Then you must be dumb." My next door neighbor knew I homeschooled my kids without my telling her. I wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. ;)

Funny thing is that my kids wouldn't go to the same ps as she does anyways :tongue_smilie: I've had 4 5 yos so far...and gotta say, I've never met one as bold and saucy and bossy as this kidlet. And my kids, simply due to genetics ARE opinionated! She's....something. I personally don't find it 'cute' when a kid puts their hands on their hips, stomps their foot and demands anything...let alone give IN b/c, "Oh, she's so adorable when she does that..." Bah. Similar comment from a fellow swimming mom, with older kids. "So you homeschool." She didn't even meet DD who was in the pool. I guess must be me then. :001_huh:

From what I've witnessed, it would be more accurate to tell the 5 yo that SHE'S not the boss of me :tongue_smilie:
