Alicia64
We've read Washington's Socks and Carry On, Mr. Bowditch (which we loved) Can you make any other great Rev. War suggestions? My boys are both nine and sensitive to animals getting hurt. TIA! Alley

daybreaking
My 10yo ds thoroughly enjoyed Guns for General Washington by Seymour Reit. We'll soon be reading Toliver's Secret by Esther Wood Brady, which I've also heard is highly recommended. If you want descriptions of the books, click http://www.heartofdakota.com/BHFHG-extension.php and scroll down the page. If you have time to look over the Heart of Dakota website, you can find more revolutionary era books as well. All of their recommendations are top-notch. Ellie
Ben and Me, and Mr. Revere and I, by Robert Lawson. Also, all of Jean Fritz's books, which can be read in one sitting, but even older children will like them: And Then What Happened, Paul Revere? Why Can't You Make Them Behave, King George? Will You Sign Here, John Hancock? Why Don't You Get a Horse, Sam Adams? What's the Big Idea, Ben Franklin?

Alicia64
I loved Johnny Tremain, but the main character gets hurt and his friend dies. my older son and I loved it, my younger son didnt much pay attention I know, I saw the reviews. My boys at nine might be a year or so too young. There does seem to be some tear jerker stuff in it that told me to wait. Thanks for the great recs, everyone. We've read a lot of the Jean Fritz books -- LOVE her! -- but may read her again. Any more? Alley
