ILiveInFlipFlops
How long did it take for the discomfort to go away? I'm on Day 3 of 10 days of abx, and I still have a dull ache in my side. It's not debilitating, just making itself known, but I guess I sort of felt like the pain would be completely gone by now. Is that unrealistic? Is it normal to still feel a little ache now and then at this point? TIA!
starwarsmomma
Well, I have one now too. Started antibiotics on Saturday night, today I'm just starting to function. This morning was very rough, but now I'm ok... only hurts now when I have to go to the restroom, then the cramping lasts for a minute or two. I admit, I waited too long to go get on the antibiotics, so mine was pretty darn bad this time. In the past usually at the end of the third day I am 99% pain free. But that's when I'm not stupid and wait too long to get meds started. LOL
Excelsior! Academy
There is a pill you can get over the counter that colors your urine. It makes it bright orange. The pill can make you give a false negative for infection, but it helps with burning and pain. You can always try Tylenol or Motrin. With kidney infections I find that I end up having to do two rounds of antibiotics and some are more effective than others.
angela in ohio
Mine was very severe, and they sent me home with enough pain meds to knock me out for 3-4 days until the pain subsided. :D Is that an option? Seriously, though, I would give it another day or two. Then I would probably call and ask to be seen.

ILiveInFlipFlops
Thanks everyone. I sort of figured three days out of 10 probably wasn't enough to assume 100% improvement, but I wasn't sure. It's kind of an odd situation in that there's more going on than just a kidney infection (I have a stuck stone; had no urinary signs of infection, just pain and fever, etc.), so I'm paranoid that there's some other mysterious cause here and wondering what the continued discomfort means. It's not even that painful--not like some of you have experienced, yeesh!--it's just making me nervous that something else is wrong. I'll give it another day or two. I appreciate the input! And joyful heart, gentle :grouphug: to you :(
