Dmmetler
Usually we end up going to Atlanta with DH for work about this time of year, which ends up being a nice "Fall break" for DD and I-a good excuse to do different things. But this year, I don't think that's going to happen. I think we both could use the break, but I'm wondering how to make that happen when we have ongoing activities that would be hard to miss when we're physically in town, and when I have a child who tends to struggle when there's less structure in general-I'm not sure that not doing our usual routine for a few days wouldn't be MORE stressful than continuing it (one reason we school lightly through the summer is BECAUSE she needs the structure of school. She seems to be OK when we're on vacation-but I think a big part of that is that vacation tends to fall into it's own routine).
MrsBanjoClown
I'm thinking I may need to do this to get some work done around the house. We are trying to get it sale-ready, and I just don't see that happening with me trying to keep up with school at the same time.
Night Elf
What about schooling lightly like you do during the summer?
JenC3
Yep. Dd 2 is in preschool so we are following the PS calendar so we have a four day weekend coming up. We will likely just do house stuff and yard stuff.
Sasharowan
Can you go out of town for a few days, even if DH isn't being sent with work? We usually take a few days and go camping, with friends since dh doesn't care to camp. Makes a nice break, gets us all away from electronics for a bit, exercise, etc.
KidsHappen
We also have a fall break and we usually go to Atlanta as well but I don't know if we are going to make it this year either. Finances are tight and we have so much going on. I am hoping that maybe my dd can come down here.
happyhomemaker
We just finished taking a fall break. We didn't have the money to go it of town, but we did have enough to do a few fun field trips (SO much easier when dh can come and one of us can be devoted to manning the 2yr old!) and eat out a couple of times. We needed the family time so it worked out well.
Mommy22alyns
I do a one week break. Perfect timing for watching playoff baseball. :D
Bug's Mom
We just got back from vacation...we spent a week in Portland OR. We started "school" in mid-August, but couldn't find our groove. The vacation had been planned for a while, so I cancelled all but math & Chinese until we got back from Portland. :D We like to travel in Sept. because the museums are quieter. Jenny in Florida
No, we've never really had the flexibility to do a fall break. Usually, we're just getting up to speed with schoolwork at that point. Some years, we take a spring break, but not always.
Soror
I plan and hope to school until the baby comes, although technically I have another break scheduled in 1 month. We started early Aug and I have a 6 week on/1 week off schedule planned. However, my due date is in 7 wks and the next break is scheduled in 4wks. I figure it more likely that I will go earlier than later so I'm hoping to school to the end if possible, so I have more wiggle room after the baby is born. Last year we did a similar schedule 6 on/1 off. It is a nice catch up time for deep cleaning, scheduling etc.
melbotoast
I think DS is about ready for a break. He is also a kid who needs some routine though. I think we will do a few fun things like go to the park or the zoo, and just do very light school as needed. We'll probably continue FIAR and science, which he loves, but take a break from math and writing. Maybe I will finally get around to doing art! Mom28kds
No, we don't. We work real hard so that in May we can get out early when the weather is nice. Our days only last shortly past lunch so I don't think we really need one. I just do a field trip if we need a small break.
Nestof3
We go to a cabin for a weekend most falls, but this is my husband's busiest time at work, so he never gets time off. I'm usually already behind in school as well. So, no.
lmrich
We take a week form regular schoolwork but stay home. I live fall.
justLisa
No because we always have a late summer break due to out of the country relatives. I take a few days around Thanksgiving
