Guest finkfam
We're considering a move from IL to TX and wondering if there are any classical co-op/part-time school alternatives to classical conversations in the DFW area. We are currently at a one-day-a- week learning center in IL that follows the Well-Trained Mind curriculum. They have a full-time faculty and then the rest of our week we're building on/expanding what they've introduced. Best of both worlds for us - faculty, classmates, classical, but only once a week so we can enjoy homeschooling. Do you know of a similar school in the DFW area? Thanks! SonshineLearner
Wow, this sounds very cool!! Can I have a link? I know that there are UM schools in TX. You can start at the one in Denton and go exploring from there. UM schools start with younger grades being in "school" for a bit and work up to more as they get older :)
Guest finkfam
Here's the link: http://www.the-greenhouse.com/ What is UM? I'm new to this!
SonshineLearner
Basically University Model schools are a hybrid of Home & Private Schools. The children go longer the older they get.... It costs money. My friend had hers attend the Denton one, which is how I heard of them. Many University Model schools use Classical Education The link at the bottom has a list of all the Texas ones. It's a huge list, so I'd think that there would be one around where you live. :) http://www.dentoncalvary.org/ http://www.naums.net/ http://naums.net/images/NAUMSSchoolDirectory.pdf
Guest finkfam
Thanks! I didn't realize this existed. That's helpful! I'm not sure if we'd want to do more than one day a week, but this is a good option.
GoVanGogh
I have heard of this one, but am not personally familiar with it: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/denton_classical_coop/ There are so many homeschool opportunities in this area. We tend to find individual classes, instead of using a co-op. We have not used this place, but have heard good things about them. http://theosonline.org/index.htm There is another place near 635 and the Tollway in Dallas. Hopefully someone with a better memory can chime in with the name/location. ETA: Finally remembered name: http://theprometheusacademy.com/
