PeacefulChaos Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 This is the first kid that I've had this happen with, so I'm totally  as to what to do here. Pink is potty trained... mostly. She is great during the day, when she's awake, and most of the time when she sleeps she stays dry (though I do still put a pullup on her at night and, currently, at nap) - she does great on the road (fell asleep for an hour or so on a road trip and no accidents), etc. Here's what the problem is: This child WILL NOT poop in the toilet. :001_huh: She goes most days at nap time, in her pullup. On days she doesn't get a nap, she doesn't go. I tried putting underwear on her, because that was what 'potty trained' her in the first place - just being in underwear. But she pooped in that, too. :ack2: So I didn't do that again, because I won't wash poopy underwear - I just toss it. And I'd prefer not to toss tons of undies. :) So I just need some advice here. I try reminding her that she needs to come tell me, just like she does if she has to pee, and she says 'Ok!' I try, when putting on her pullup, to say, 'Ok, you're not going to pee in your pullup? Or poop in it?' and she says 'No way!' I tried fussing at her when I found a pooped in pullup. I'm at a loss. Like I said, she's the first kid who I've had this happen with, and I have no idea what to do! Do I just wait it out, and it'll pass eventually? Do I try some sort of positive reinforcement? I'd rather not punish her, so I don't think that's an alley I want to explore (the couple of times over the last few months that I've fussed at her, it's done no more good than anything else, so I'd prefer not to make a huge deal out of it if that's possible). Help! :bigear: Quote
Lucy in Australia Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Is there something that has scared her in the toilet? I've heard of a few kids that got scared of the "splash" when they pooped in the toilet so they put toilet paper in first and that helped. Otherwise, what worked with my DD was her favourite thing on the whole earth: chocolate. Whenever she pooped in the toilet she got a square of chocolate :) Quote
countrygal Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I did this with my son: when I knew he was due for a poop I sat him on a potty chair (naked butt) in front of the TV and let him eat while he watched. Once I got him to do it once, he wasn't so scared of it anymore. That's the only thing I can think of! HTH! Quote
Jpoy85 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 if she has normal poops, you should just be able to flip it off her panties and then wash. We cloth diapered though so i guess im sort of use to it. I would use normal panties and a treat of some sort. Quote
Starr Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 We just washed out the unders untill it resolved its' self. Quote

Yup, it only took a couple of poops in the underwear for the problem to resolve itself, because that felt icky to her. I'm not really sure why poop was much worse in undies than in (cloth) dipes, but it apparently was. Quote
solascriptura Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I usually potty train the poops first. If that hurdle is taken care of, the number1s are much easier. I just reinforce to the child that big kids poop in the potty and reward with chocolate chips. I did this with all 4. Number 4 was the easiest ( and earliest) because the older 4 created a potty cheer for her. She loved that. Quote
