how wide (from left to right) is your pantry cabinet?

Recommended Posts

My pantry is in the laundry area that is off the kitchen, the washer and dryer are on one side, there are shelves on the entire opposite wall. The house before this had a narrow door (2 ft. wide?) opening to a floor to ceiling closet with shelves that was about 3 ft. wide.

Get as much as you can!!!!

Mine is 24 inches wide. It's this one actually and I love it. It holds almost all our food. Maybe I could have put all of it in there if we didn't have so many supplements and medications in addition to food. It has pull out drawers so things in the back are just as accessible as things in the front. If that's not the case with your pantry situation I wouldn't go deep.

Mine is about 5-6 feet wide [sorry, I'm on the couch for the eve watching "Enterprise"] and about a foot deep. The actual food area starts about waist-high and is 3 shelves maybe 18 inches apart. There is empty space underneath where I keep cleaning stuff. The tip-top shelf which is really too high for me has vases, napkins, stuff like that. It's got 2 bifold doors on it, but still there is some tucked away space on either end.

Honestly? I hate it. Well, hate is strong, it has some good points [better than the linen closet I had upstairs until we remodeled!] but I'd rather have a walk-in and a proper broom closet.

43.5" wide x 23" deep. But the shelves are only 12" deep and the opening to the pantry is only 23.5" wide. It's really an odd size with a lot of unusable and difficult-to-use space. I have 4 shelves that are 14" apart and there is 41" above the top shelf. I'm sure there's a better way to use the space but I haven't figured it out. My neighbor's pantry is even smaller! Same door width but with just a couple inches on the sides.

In one house I had a double-door closet pantry. It had about 10" deep shelves but it was about 5" wide. I found that one much more usable as the entire closet opened up and there was little wasted space like I have now.

mine is in my laundry room. One side of the room is the washer, dryer, large area for brooms, mops, vacuum, etc with 3 shelves over the washer and dryer for cleaning stuff. A fairly large window seperates the room and the other side is floor to ceiling shelves which are 8 ft. wide, 8 ft. tall and 15" deep. The only negative is that the room is not that close to the kitchen and stuff does seem to get lost in there.

Mine is roughly 8x6 with two regular doors that swing open and fixed shelves that are about 3.5' deep. I really love that the top shelf has enough height & depth to allow me to store my wheat grinder, deli slicer, toaster, electric griddle, etc. and that my bottom shelf allows enough room underneath to store buckets of wheat, rice, popcorn, beans, etc.

The kitchen in my century old house has a huge pantry that was designed to be cooler than the rest of the house and is the size of a big walk in closet.

And it's been turned into a bathroom. Oh well. I make do with a single cupboard and a corner bench with deep cabinets underneath for longer term storage.
