Unicorn.
Ds just told me he wants to read another book like Watership Down. Anybody have a recommendation?
redsquirrel
What about the book did he like? Is it the animals as protagonists? The adventure? The 'band of brothers fighting in a war' aspect? The very British feel to the book? Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh comes close in that it is a world about animals, but it is more fantasy. Not that Watership Down isn't fantastical in its own way.
jar7709
Duncton Wood, by William Horwood? (this was one of my favorites as a teen, it is out of print but you can probably find it used pretty cheaply) The Redwall Series?
Unicorn.
He says the Band of Brothers aspect. He might enjoy Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. Thanks, I forgot about that one. He is my war/history buff and over the summer read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. I don't think he wants anything that heavy right now, though!
Joshin
The entire Redwall series of novels is excellent. Although the animals are a bit more human-like than the rabbits in Watership Down, there is plenty of adventure and band-of-brothers like plot points. Pegasus
Definitely the Redwall series. Also, a more recent series called Warriors by the pseudonym Erin Hunter

I think I will get him to try the Redwall series again. He read a couple in 2nd or 3rd grade, but only liked the first one.
