Free National Park Day

Recommended Posts

You know, up until today I thought National Parks were always free!

My grandparents went on a big trip out west and visited several, and she was talking about how they were able to get in free to all of them because of a senior pass of some sort. I was like.... 'It's not free all the time?'

:001_huh: I guess I kind of thought that was the point... free or low cost...

Nope. Definitely not free. I remember my dad paying even when I was a little kid, so at least 35 years. (I don't think National Forests used to cost, though. Just National Parks.) Relatively low cost. The most expensive one I've visited is $15, but that is for a whole carload, and is good for three days.

The third pass down would be the one your Grandma has. Very good deal. $10 for a lifetime pass, and they can bring everyone in their car in, even if the other people aren't seniors. My mom and her husband have one of the second, 'cause he's a vet, and DH's grandma has the third. We have the first one, America the Beautiful.
