Trivium Academy Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 We have the student book, TM, CD and DVDs. I've seen other posts about this going quickly so I wonder if the standard a week per lesson even applies here. 25 weeks of 25 PL lessons? Or should I anticipate getting Latina Christiana this year too? I'm not sure how to plan this out, but I have allotted 15 min daily 5 days a week for it. How should I do this? What have you done? Or should I anticipate getting Latina Christiana this year too? I'm not sure how to plan this out, but I have allotted 15 min daily 5 days a week for it. How should I do this? What have you done? Here's what we did for PL: Monday- Listen to the lesson on the cd, read the lesson, and make flash cards for the vocabulary Tues-continue with the lesson and study vocab/prayers Wed-finish up lesson, study vocab/prayers Thurs-dc recite prayer and vocab. back to me w/o looking Fri-free unless they missed some on Thursday We didn't have the dvd's for PL, but we did for LC1 and 2. In that case, ds would watch the dvd on Monday, and complete the lesson. The rest of the week he would work on any lesson he didn't finish, study vocab/prayers, and test on Thursday. We always finished up early in the year, but it was good b/c by the time we finish we're getting burned out with school anyway. HTH! Quote
Chris in VA Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 We dropped out around lesson 15, but here's how we did it-- Day 1 Watched first part of the dvd lesson (up to the prayer) Day 2 Wrote out the vocab on index cards cut in half (Eng 1 side, Latin other) and did the left side of the workbook page (where the review was, etc.) Day 3 Reviewed all cards, watched rest of lesson, practiced prayer Day 4 Finished written exercises, practiced prayer, reviewed all cards Sometimes we combined a little. Some weeks we didn't get to the prayer. You will be much more organized than I was! lol BTW, I think the dvd's are boring. But I needed help with the pronounciation, and we tolerated them. Quote
TracyR Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 We're going through at a pretty quick pace but that's because my 10 year old is using it along with her 8yr old sister and so far the 8yr old can keep up. I know the first 5 Latin lessons we moved pretty quickly. We're on Lesson 15 now and we've only been using PL for a few months. We've slowed down a bit because now we're getting into some of the grammar part of it and its not just memorizing a Latin word with an English word . I've done it pretty differently and I think it takes a bit of tweaking to find out what works best for your children. Monday -DVD lesson and worksheet pages. Work on prayer Tuesday - go over flashcards and work on prayer Wed - We go over the lesson again just mom and the girls and work on the prayer Thurs- I just make up a quick , match the word , or cross word puzzle for them to do for fun , work on the prayer Friday - We listen to the CD and practice the prayer. I also make my girls learn the English translation to the prayers along with the Latin. I'm also thinking that I need to make some copywork sheets for them for the prayers because they keep complaining they can't spell the Latin words. Of course I tweak things each week or do something different on a different day. But I always start out the beginning of the week with our DVD lessons. It just starts things out in a great way and gives me time to listen to the pronunciation of the words. I'm one of those kind of people that need to see and hear the person say the word first. Quote
