Stacia
Earlier this week, ds read Remarkable by Elizabeth Foley & really, really enjoyed it. Definitely recommended! He felt the same about The Chronicles of Chrestomanci (Vol. 1) by Diana Wynne Jones. He liked, but didn't love, James Patterson's Witch and Wizard. What are your 10-12 yos reading lately (for fun) & recommending? :bigear:
6packofun
My ds11 read and really enjoyed The Search for Wondla by Tony DiTerlizzi: http://www.amazon.com/The-Search-WondLa-Tony-DiTerlizzi/dp/1416983112/ He also likes The Mysterious Benedict Society (series) Gregor the Overlander (series) Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel (sort of a series, about bats! All my kids love these) Robot Wars (series by Sigmund Brouwer) The Name of This Book is Secret (Secret series by Pseudonymous Bosch) and most books by Roald Dahl! AK_Mom4
DD11 just finished The Mysterious Benedict Society and is working her way thru the first 3 Maximum Ride books by James Patteson. She is also reading (at the same time) a couple of the Pendragon books (not sure which ones) and the first Bartimous Stroud book.
amo_mea_filiis.
Dd has been reading mangas, some tiger series, the painted drum, and has been working on pride and prejudice and zombies for a little while.
kwg
Ds10 is reading the hunger city chronicles, and just finished The White Giraffe, and Wee Free Men. He liked Wee Free Men but it was more challenging for him b/c - i think- of the dialect. I will have to check some of these others out. So many books. so little time. amsunshine
Another vote for the Mysterious Benedict Society series. My dds both love them.
LindaOz
My 10yo has just read and enjoyed The Black Stallion. It's a great story about a boy and a horse. She also quite enjoyed The Toothpaste Millionaire. My 12yo just read the full version of Alice in Wonderland for the first time. It had escaped my attention that she hadn't actually read it for herself (it gets a bit tricky remembering who has read what...) so I 'assigned' it. She really enjoyed it. Now she's onto Through the Looking Glass. My kids also love The Ranger's Apprentice series.
placeofgrace
My 12 yr old son just discovered the Redwall series.
LibraryLover
Has he read the Artemis Fowl books yet?
redsquirrel
My son would say to keep going with Dianna Wynn Jones and don't stop until you have read them all! And, then move on to Neil Gaiman, Graveyard book and Coraline are great. When he was 10 and 11 (he is 12 now) he loved Gregor the Overlander series while he was waiting for more books by Rick Riordan. And, if he hasn't already, check out The Melendy Quartet and The Penderwicks. My son loved those.
Unicorn.
Percy Jackson, and the Maximum Ride series by Patterson. I agree w/ your son on Witch and Wizard, but Max Ride is a great series! Dd really like the Pendragon series at that age, but I if he didn't like W&W, he might not like that either.
Lizzie in Ma
The Edge Chronicles, The Percy Jackson series, The Kane Chronicles, The Ranger's Apprentice, and she still loves Spiderwick too.
sunriseiz
You have lots great suggestions above! My DD would highly recommend "The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic" (she laughed all the way through it!). Also, anything by Rick Riordan or Dan Gutman has been greatly enjoyed. Caroline
My 11 year old loved a lot of the books mentioned. He did just finish Fellowship of the Ring. It took him a while, but he is ready to move on to Two Towers. He also liked the Eragon series.
Haiku
Another vote for The Mysterious Benedict Society. Dd also just started The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, and she has recently re-read all the Warriors series books (about cats). She plans to read, in the next few weeks, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Tuck Everlasting, The Endless Steppe, and, with my guidance, To Kill a Mockingbird. Also, she just read Holes for book club and really enjoyed it. Tara
