If my plan is to move from SM/MEP to BA...

...will it be overkill to work the sections on multiplication in years 2 of SM/MEP? Should I expect memory of the tables during these sections?

As it stands right now, she correctly solved all of the assessment problems for BA 3A. But, I want her to run through a proper curriculum and be exposed to other methods and ideas and fill in any holes she may have. I'm also fairly sure a year of maturation will help her when dealing with frustration.

Are you planning on using BA as your only math? We use it as a supplement to Singapore and love it, but wouldn't use it exclusively.

My son is almost done with the skip counting section in 3A. He does not have his multiplications facts memorized yet and did fine on that section.

I might add in some CWP/IP, but it will be our spine.

Why would you not use it exclusively?

We do use it as our only math. We finished Singapore 2b and moved into 3a around Easter last year. I thought my daughter would be more frustrated when she couldn't easily solve problems(something she was too easily able to do last year), but she is learning patience and how to approach problems from different angles. She really didn't know much in the way of multiplication when we left Singapore math where they explain some of the basics, but she had not mastered her facts beyond knowing x0, x1, x2 and x10. We just started 3B and though we have been doing some TimezAttack on the side she has not mastered all of her facts by any stretch. The first chapter of 3B is multiplication so now it is time to get down to business.

My daughter turned 7 in June.

Also, I know some people manage to use it as a supplement, but we spend 45 minutes a day on Beast approximately and are just slowly moving along. I'm not sure where I would find time to squeeze in the others. But that's just us.

We are using BA as a supplement to SM because the books are not being published fast enough for us to use them as a spine. I use the SM text and workbook and then BA in place of CWP/IP. That set up is working well for us right now. For the op, are you asking if your dd should learn her multiplication facts or not before starting BA? DS knew them and it didn't hinder him during the skip counting chapter and I think that may be the only chapter where it might make a difference.

I understand this. We would use them as a supplement too. But, I'm hoping that if we start BA NEXT year, then we will be sufficiently behind the curve to be able to take advantage of these without worry about the production pace. At least for a while...

If we start next August they will hopefully have 3A-3D and 4A and B... And at their current rate, they'll complete 4C and 4D and 5A while we're working through year 3. My only bummer is that they did not start with year 2. :tongue_smilie:

But both of us have enough younger kids that I am sure year 2 will benefit us someday.
