OnTheBrink
A family at church is adopting 3 (yes, 3!) boys, ages 2-7. I'd like to get them some books for their "welcome to the family" shower. It's been a while since I've dealt with elementary level books. Any suggestions? Suggestions for subjects other than math are welcome, too. Thanks!

Hunter
OntheBrink, thanks for starting this thread! I like this list. http://www.mhschool.com/math/2002/teacher/teachres/bibliography.html I try to get books out on arithmetic and another topic each week. I try to move through arithmetic systematically, but do the other topics unit study like, with very little pressure for mastery, and a clear beginning and ending to the unit. I find students are far less impressed with just any old math books, compared to we are tackling THIS topic this week and have a variety of books on it. If I were buying for another family, I might settle on a math topic and get a group of books on that one topic. And if it were measuring, or money, or clocks, I'd give them something to hold or use with the books.
OnTheBrink
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. The mom is a nurse and the dad is a math teacher at the high school level, so I thought some living books would be a fun thing for them to all read together. I'm going to add some quality children's fiction books, too. :)
