umsami
So, I gave my Dad a Kindle for his 80th birthday as he loves to read and I thought the font size adjust and built-in dictionary would be great. He found it too technically frustrating and gave it back to me, saying "give me real books, please." Now I'm wondering whether or not I should keep it or return it. I have an iPad already, which I love and on which I use the Kindle App. The Kindle I got my Dad was a basic one, not a fire. The only major benefit I can see is using the Kindle lending library. Help me... should I keep it or return it? My kids are not of the age where they need their own Kindle (nor will Mom give them one. :))
Forget-Me-Not
A good chunk of the reason that I LOVE my Kindle is because it is not backlit. Backlit screens give me a headache after a while.
Luckymama
I have and use both my iPad and Kindle daily :D I do not read on the iPad if I can help it as the backlighting is annoying after a while. I can check out ebooks through my library system----can you do that?
linguistmama
I really like the e-ink instead of a backlit screen. Have you tried reading on the kindle? I noticed a big difference right away.
Wendi
I agree with everyone else. A Kindle is easier on the eyes, and you can even read in bright sunlight. I took my Kindle to the beach on vacation, and it was great! Wendi
Diann
I have both, but I prefer the Kindle for reading. I don't like reading for a long period of time on a backlit display. Also, I can take the Kindle outside and still be able to read. So, if I were you, I'd keep it. :001_smile: Diann
MtnMama
Same here. I use both every day, and much prefer the Kindle for reading.
umsami
Thanks everybody. :D I'm going to try it out before returning it. I haven't used it yet, so it will be interesting to see the difference. I have been reading Kindle books on my iPad (including those checked out from the library) and love it. SJ.
I would keep it for the lending library. I am not really into ebooks but after browsing amazon's lending library I was thinking I might need a basic one. :001_smile:
