Julpost Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 These bones were given to us by our neighbor last night. Our dog ate most of them but left one outside on the balcony overnight. I found my 1 yo ds scooping out the inside stuff and putting it in his mouth. I don't know if he actually ate any but half of it was gone so it's possible. I'm really worried about food poisoning now...what should I do?? Quote

Littles eat lots of gross stuff. Just from last night isn't too bad. :tongue_smilie: Quote
Tammy Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Well just watch him....and if he starts rolling over....and wanting to play fetch....then take him to the dr. LOLOLOL! Just kidding.... I wouldn't worry either....if it is safe for a dog.....well...I can't imagine it would be bad for a child..... Quote
Cheryl in NM Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 He'll probably be fine, but at the first hint of upset stomach symptoms or fever get him to the doc immediately. Our son was one to follow the dog around outside and he put EVERYthing he saw into his mouth. He almost died at 16 months. Something he stuck in his mouth caused all the natually occurring viruses and bacterias in his stomach to go amok. Of course, just the dog's bone is probably fine. I only mention this because it seems he might be the type to put things in his mouth. I didn't get my son right to the doc because I thought it was just a yucky tummy that I'd had. When I did take him to the doc he said to take him home and let it run it's course. So I took him home for a little while, but I knew something was seriously wrong so I hauled him to the ER where they admitted him for being extremly dehydrated. This all elapsed in about 2 days, but it took the hospital over a day to diagnose him; he was so dehydrated he wasn't "outputting" anything they could test. He was so lethargic he didn't even cry when they took his blood. I don't mean to scare you, but my mil was always saying that a little dirt never hurt a child so we let him sit and play in the dirt. We were stupid. We should have been more vigilant. Your son is probably fine. A dog's mouth is very clean and I wouldn't worry about the marrow being bad. We over-refrigerate in this country. Just make sure that if you see signs of stomach upset or an unexplained fever make your doctor find the cause. Quote
